PK3.3 - Peek at the week
26th - 29th September
Hello PK3.3 parents!
Our Ball Unit has sparked curiosity and mathematical skills, such as counting, comparing and measuring among students. This week’s focus question was “Do all Balls Bounce?” We have wondered, predicted and tested which balls bounce best. Apart from bounciness, we have also learned about height and weight by comparing and identifying big and small balls as well as light and heavy balls.
A new vocabulary word was introduced: ‘sphere’. We discussed how spheres are different from flat circular objects such as a Frisbee or a CD. This means that a sphere looks like a circle from every angle. In our Discovery area, children measured the circumference of different sized balls and their own heads to see which were bigger or smaller.
We encourage families to talk with your children about your favorite childhood ball games. As well as to talk about what balls are made of, if they are heavy or light, or if they are big or small. Wonder aloud with your child to inspire his or her thinking about balls. And of course celebrate their learning and accomplishments!
Enjoy the weekend,
PK3 Team
REMINDERS AND DIARY DATES:
Books: The Three Billy Goats Gruff
After reading the fairy tale “Three Billy Goats Gruff” we used our new learning about sizes and weight in different activities around the classroom. Throughout the week children have been retelling the tale in our library with sequence cards and small, medium and big Billy Goat puppets (and a grumpy Troll!). In our block area children were challenged to build bridges of different sizes and height to cross a river and get the Billy Goats to the other side.
We also read: The Three Billy Goats Fluff

THIS WEEKS SONG
In the garden with Ms Sharon
Storytime in the library with Ms Nuri.
This week Ms Nuri engaged the children with an interactive confidence building book, From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. She invited them to imitate the animal movements as giraffes bent their necks and monkeys waved their arms!. The repetition on each page "Can you do it? I can do it!" soon had us all joining in.
