What an amazing Book Fair we had! We sold almost $17,000 in books! That means that the library earned over $4200 to spend on books and technology. An enormous THANK YOU goes out to our Book Fair Co-Chairs, Krissy Schenck and Lisa Tolle, for all of their efforts and the time that they gave to make this Book Fair a great experience for everyone. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time throughout the week to help students shop as well. This event simply could not be the great success it is without the support of our parent volunteers. A special thanks also goes to the PTO for allowing us to open the Book Fair prior to the Movie Night. The entire TCE staff was very supportive too!

Our All-for-Books coin collection was also very successful! As a school, we collected over $1,700 in change! This money allowed classroom teachers to purchase books for their classrooms and increased our overall profits. Also, Scholastic matches our donation with book donations to organizations like the Kids in Need Foundation and the Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. How very generous and thoughtful of our school community!

Our spring and fall Book Fairs are the primary sources of funding for our library. All of this is evidence that TCE families and students truly value and understand the importance of reading. Thank you all for supporting the library and the love of reading in our school.

Plastic Cap and Lid Donation/Buddy Bench Project Update

The final day to donate caps and lids for our Buddy Bench Project was Wed, Apr 22. Thank you so very much for all of the donations! After several months of collecting, we finally have a total weight calculated! Our goal was to collect 800 pounds of caps and lids to be recycled into two Buddy Benches for our TCE playgrounds. With the help of students, staff, families, and community members, we have collected approximately...DRUM ROLL, PLEASE…1,375 pounds!!!

That is 575 pounds over our goal of 800 pounds! Congratulations, Cardinals! We worked together as a team to achieve and exceed our goal!

Extra thanks to Mrs. Wallace and our TCE Student Council, Mrs. Michele Myers and our TCE custodial staff, and our TCE Dad's Club for their help with the collection process!

Now that we have met our collection goal, the caps will be taken to a recycling plant in southern Indiana where they will use the plastic from these caps to create two Buddy Benches for our Thorpe Creek Elementary playgrounds. We are still in the process of finalizing these details, but will let you know when the benches arrive!

If you’d like to learn more, please visit the following websites:

Greentree Plastics

Christian’s Buddy Bench

When the benches are installed on our playgrounds, they will be a constant reminder of our wonderful TCE family! We all played a part in creating these benches that will benefit students for many years to come! It’s a great day to be a Cardinal! Thanks again!

TCE Cardinal Families,

Hello! Our 1st grade class has been doing a PBL on animal shelters for the last few weeks. We have learned a lot of information on how animal shelters are funded, and want to do our part to make a donation on behalf of TCE.

On Friday, May 8th during your child’s recess, our class will be selling pop-ice popsicles for $0.50 each. We are calling our event “Popsicles for Puppies!” ALL proceeds will go directly to the Humane Society for Hamilton County. With your permission, your child may purchase one popsicle during their recess. If you would like your child to participate, please send in $0.50 and the signed permission slip at the bottom of this paper. Thank you so much for helping us raise money for such an important organization in our community!
