Oakland Schools is proud to stand with our districts to support student learning and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize that the disruptions caused by the pandemic have impacted our community in inequitable ways, therefore making an intentional focus on equity a necessary component in school reopening plans.
With that in mind, we are thrilled to announce this FREE National Speaker series, Making Equity the Center of School Reopening in 2021 and Beyond, featuring a collection of award-winning and nationally renowned speakers, teachers, and researchers.
Oakland Schools Welcomes Dr. Amy McCart
Dr. Amy McCart: Equity-Based MTSS for In-Person and Remote Learning - May 26, 2021 7-8pm
Dr. Amy McCart is a Research Professor with Life Span Institute and Adjunct Faculty status with the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas. She is the Co-Principal Investigator for the Equity Leadership in High Need Schools research grant, funded through the U.S. Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. Dr. McCart is the Co-Director of SWIFT Education Center established in 2012 at the University of Kansas. SWIFT is a national pre-K-12 research and technical assistance center designed to improve outcomes for all students, with emphasis on students of color and those with the most extensive need for support. Dr. McCart leads an amazing team of technical assistance professionals in urban, rural and high need schools across the United States.
Presenter Dr. Amy McCart will provide a one hour online webinar consisting of a 45 minute lecture, followed by a 15 minute Q&A. The topic of the presentation will explore how schools can re-design more robust tiered systems of support for all students, while ensuring students and educators are safe and protected. Additionally, Dr. McCart will help attendees explore how schools might move beyond the concept of “Inclusivity” toward the concept of “Rightful Presence.”
