Kia ora koutou
It is hard to believe we are in to Week 7! The term is flying by.
Our Covid cases continue to rise here at school, yesterday we had 96 students away, today 76.
Not all are Covid related, we do have positive cases, many away isolating, some precautionary and some with other ailments.
Please notify your class teacher or the office of any absenteeism.
Please monitor health very carefully and test if symptomatic.
It was great to be able to carry out our School Swimming Event even though in a closed event environment. Students are now actively engaged in a variety of sports throughout the week - we hope our Inter School Intermediate sporting events will take place before the end of term, however we monitor our Omicron Environment very carefully, this may need to be postponed.
Enjoy your weekend- keep well!

This year I have the privilege of leading and working with a wonderful, energised and vibrant Ohawe team Whanau. I am the Teacher in Room 2.
I am the teacher in charge of sports alongside Liz Stewart and help look after ICT with Erica Stephens. For the past 3 years I have been a Mentor Teacher within our school.
I was born, raised and did all my schooling right here in Hawera. I am married to a wonderful man, Ihaka and have 2 awesome children. Hapotiki, 21 and Arcadia, 9 at Hawera Primary. Since 2006 I have taught in Masterton, Featherston, and Wellsford and moved back to Hawera in 2016. I am an energetic and passionate individual who absolutely loves the rewards and challenges found in the education profession.
When not working at school, I like to be involved at my local Marae, participating in Kapa Haka, singing and I really love hanging with whanau and making memories. I enjoy guiding students to recognise and achieve their own potential and to be successful on their pathway to success.
I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our Ohawe Team, Rm4 -Khushman Vaid, Rm 6- Erica Stephens and Rm7- Des Bain.
ERICA STEPHENS
Ko Erica Stephens toku ingoa.
I am excited to continue to be part of such a supportive and inspiring team at Hawera Intermediate.
I was born in Hawera and have lived here the majority of my life. My husband and I have three sons of the ages 14, 12 and 10 - one which attends Hawera Intermediate.
I have been teaching for 21 years and love the connection and relationship building that goes with building learning opportunities for our tamariki. I have experience teaching across all year levels from Year 0-8.
I believe that every person needs to understand their path and next steps to fully grasp the full success of their tasks and therefore celebrate their achievements. I support and encourage classrooms being positive, energetic and thought provoking place where children strive for the best they can be.
KHUSHMAN VAID
Kia Ora!
I am from India and came to New Zealand in 2019. I started my teaching career in New Zealand at Westport South School. I joined Hawera Intermediate in January 2021 as a classroom teacher of Room 4. This year too I have the privilege of teaching the young and promising students in Room 4.
The warm welcome at Hawera Intermediate makes me feel at home. I feel privileged to be connected to the school whanau and am thankful for their support, love and care.
I believe that each one is special in their own way and has the potential to achieve. In Room 4 we are a whanau who believe in teamwork and helping each other to attain their best.
I am looking forward to getting to know the students and whanau throughout the year.
DES BAIN
I am the teacher in Room 7 and am looking forward to working alongside Whaea Deb and our tamariki in 2022. I was born and raised in South Taranaki and began my teaching career at Hawera Intermediate in 2018 and apart from spending a year teaching at my old primary school in Eltham, I have been here ever since.
I enjoy exercising and playing a variety of sports, which helps to balance out my love of food and I have loved being able to incorporate this into our Healthy Active learning in our classroom this year.
