Proud Principal
Greetings Trojan Families,
We've been working diligently to provide quality instruction for our students. We need your support making sure your student is logging in daily. Students are receiving grades based on their completion of assignments. These grades will determine if students pass each course. We cannot stress the importance of students participating in live lessons and completing their assignments. It's important that students do both (login to Canvas and complete their assignments). If you need additional assistance or support, please connect with your students teachers. We are also moving to ensuring that instruction for our students happens five days a week. Students will have live instruction and assignments from their teachers every day in Canvas.

6th Grade
Hello 6th Grade,
Welcome to November!! We are four months into the school year and it is steady. I know we are in a different time and things seem confusing, but know that we miss you all here at Ferndale. Please continue to log into Canvas to complete assignments. If you have friends that you have not seen in class, please reach out to them and have them join their classes. The 6th grade team is coming up with ideas to keep learning fun. Remember we are here to help. Also, remember to show P.R.I.D.E in everything you do.

7th Grade
Happy November! I want to take a moment to thank you for working alongside our teachers to make this remote instruction adventure as successful as possible for our students. I’m grateful for the many parents who have reached out to check on their students work and let us know how we can better support them. Effective communication is vital! I have started a Microsoft Teams called “7th grade TROJANS” to communicate directly with all our amazing scholars. Please, encourage your students to ask questions and participate of the conversations. I will schedule “MEET & GREET” times for them to connect with me and share their thoughts as well as build stronger relationships among the 7th grade team. I know that remote learning is a challenge for many, but “TOGETHER, we can do GREAT things!” We have experienced our first round of reading and math online benchmarks and, as usual, we are using that data to address individual needs. As always, I want to encourage you all to visit the Ferndale Middle School website frequently for updates. Feel free to email me at rivasdm@gcsnc.com or text me at (336) 312-4119 if you have any question or concern.
Thank you! Valeria Kouba Grateful 7th grade Assistant Principal
8th Grade
Greetings Scholars! I want to thank all of you for participating in Red Ribbon Week! It was a huge success. The 8th Grade Teachers and I appreciate your collaboration with us during Distance/Remote Learning. It is so gratifying to work in a school community in which all stakeholders value our scholars' education. Each of us play an integral part in supporting one another during this time, and I want to thank you for doing your part.
I look forward to a great rest of the year together as partners in the education of your students
James Bawlson, 8th grade Assistant Principal

The IB Learner Profile
The IB Learner Profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We, as a part of the community of IB educators and learners, believe these attributes, and others like them, can help our scholars to become responsible citizens in a global community. The MYP is designed to help students develop the characteristics of the IB Learner Profile as they progress through it, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and beyond. Click HERE MYP For Parents for information on the MYP PROGRAMME.
Sixth Graders
Next week we will begin our Cyberbullying Prevention Program, students will first complete a pre-test. School Counselor Ms. Lee and Mental Health Coordinator Mrs. Armstrong will be delivering the information to your 6th graders in their Physical Education classes. There are 5 sessions. We plan to start on Monday, November 16th.
Please check out the Parent Information sheet on the Counseling Department’s Announcement page on Canvas.
Eighth Graders
Guess what eighth graders?? It’s never too early to prepare for college and career. On November 4th, eighth graders began completing a career assessment in their ELA classes. This assessment allows students to begin thinking about their four year plans in high school. So far at least half of the eighth grade cohort has completed this assessment but we have so many other students we have to reach.
Instructions:
In order to streamline the process of providing a Career Assessment virtually to your 8th graders, the process has been reduced to 2 steps.
1. Provide the Career Assessment link to the students: https://nccareers.org/find-career/career-cluster-match
2. Each student needs to record their results on the forms document: FMS 8th Grade Student Cluster Results.
The deadline is November 30th.
All eighth graders must complete these forms so if you have any students that have any questions please contact the Counseling Department.
