GRE Family Gazette
November 19, 2018
Dear GRE Families,
I hope you had a restful and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday! We were hard at work today learning and participating in professional learning. We are so excited to welcome our learners back to school tomorrow!
Last week we had our first Eagle Ed of the year! Thanks to our PTO for supporting this exciting opportunity for students and teachers to explore different passions and interests. As I walked around the school, students were grinning from ear to ear and having fun seeing teachers in a different light. It was such a special day and I look forward to our next Eagle Ed in December. Be sure to check out the pictures in this week's newsletter to get a glance at Eagle Ed in action.
A huge thank you to all the families that made purchases to support our Book Fair. We had a great turnout and many who couldn't make it visited the online store. The Book Fair allowed each of our teachers to get books to help maintain or build up their classroom library which is something that impacts all of our students! Thank you also to our PTO for your hard work in planning, working, and maintaining the Book Fair.
Let's have a great week at GRE!

A Few Important Reminders:
1. Please refer to previous newsletter regarding Big Walnut's policy on animals on school property. If you have been bringing your pet to arrival or dismissal, please make other arrangements. I appreciate your support in following this Board Policy in order to keep our students safe and comfortable.
2. The Holly Market and Holly Shop are right around the corner. Make plans to join us December 8th from 9:00-2:00! More information will be shared soon but if you are interested in helping, don't hesitate to reach out to the General Rosecrans PTO!
3. Our schools are extremely fortunate to have the support of our parent and community volunteers. While we are continually grateful for this support, we are also aware of the potential concerns that can arise when volunteers are working directly with students. One of the recent priorities established by our District Safety Committee, which is comprised of law enforcement personnel, first responders, parents, and staff, is that volunteers should have background checks completed to promote safety within our schools. Each staff member and coach in the district is required to provide initial and ongoing background checks to insure that they are deemed safe for working with our students, so it makes sense to consider a similar requirement for volunteers working with students or who are helping in the building during the school day. Click here to read more about our volunteer policy that will go into effect on March 1, 2019.
