TWO VERY IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

As we head into the last 2 weeks before the holidays: all students must complete the Daily Covid-19 Self Screening Tool each day. If your child demonstrates any of the symptoms listed, they must stay home and follow the Public Health directions. A link to the online screening tool, as well as a pdf version are provided below.

We all hope that we continue with face to face learning; however, we also want to be prepared to pivot to remote learning quickly if necessary. Please ensure that you have communicated with your child's teacher if your family would require the use of school technology to learn from home.

Dear Families,

We have several special announcements and reminders this week! We will once again be supporting the Partners in Mission Food Bank by asking families to send in non-perishable food items to school up until Tuesday December 15th. We will be collecting and storing the items using appropriate COVID protocols, and the food bank has a safe system for the collection, storage and distribution of the food items to families in need. Thank you in advance for your support of this important local charity.

We have been invited to participate in a creative and community-building fundraiser by the Parent Council of Module de l'Acadie: families are invited to be a contestant or a voter in the "Holiday Lights Contest"! A portion of the funds raised by Henderson families will be donated to our school, and will go towards supporting the purchase of outdoor equipment for recess, outdoor Phys. Ed. and DPA. You will find detailed information below. Thanks, Module de l'Acadie!

Don't forget to stock up on some tasty products from "Mom's Pantry!" The product guide and online information is all provided below. Happy shopping!

A reminder that Mrs. Davey is putting together a slideshow of celebrations and traditions that are important and meaningful to the families in our school community: please send pictures to daveyjk@limestone.on.ca by Friday, December 11th. We are looking forward to being able to virtually share our heritage, cultures, celebrations and special family moments together!

And finally, a reminder to ensure that your child/ren have proper outdoor clothing (boots, snowpants, warm coats, hats & mitts) as well as extra indoor clothing (socks, pants, socks, underwear, socks, shirts....and one more pair of socks if possible :). We continue to go outdoors for recess in all kinds of weather, and staff continue to take students outside multiple times each day for outdoor learning, exercise and mask breaks!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mme Peart & Mrs. Davey

COVID-19 Daily Active Screening

All students, staff, bus drivers, bus monitors and visitors to schools must perform a daily self-assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 before each school day and before putting students on a school bus. Staying home when sick is important to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses in our community.

COVID-19 Screening Tool

Parents and caregivers must review the following checklist with their child/student before sending them to school each day and before putting them on a school bus.

Please use the online COVID-19 School Screening Tool available in English and French (released October 1, 2020). You can print or download this version in English or French (by clicking on the top right). We are working on translations in additional languages. This new screening tool replaces what was provided previously (Sept. 21, 2020 version).

We are asking Henderson families (including teachers, extended family and neighbours) to participate along with Module de l’Acadie and Frontenac Secondary School in the Holiday Light Contest Fundraiser in one (or more) of the following ways:

1. Pay $10.00 to be a contestant in the Holiday Light Contest – decorate your house and submit your address by Sunday December 6 (you do not have to be Clark Griswold to be a contestant – we are looking for participants so we can create a tour); or

2. Pay $5.00 to be a “J.R. Henderson” voter in our Holiday Light Contest – on or after December 7 you will get a voter identification number and a list of the participating addresses.

After just over two weeks there are 29 l’Acadie and FSS families participating by decorating their homes and 123 people have signed up for the tour! Don’t miss your chance to participate in this exciting new fundraiser and raise funds for the J.R. Henderson Parent Council!

School Council Information/Mom's Pantry Fundraiser Information

The School Council has done a great deal of research to find a fundraiser that provides contact-free delivery, is healthy and amazing and has decided to partner with "Mom's Pantry!" Please see detailed information below. **Please note that due to restrictions with COVID-19, we are unable to commit to Group Pick up orders. You MUST select products that can be delivered to your home, by selecting “Fundraiser Order (From Afar). This will allow for individual shipping. Only “dry” products (i.e. not frozen or fresh) are available for order at this time.**

Our next School Council meeting will be on January 14th, 2021 from 6:45-8:45. We anticipate that the meeting will be held virtually, and will send out information for parents & guardians who would like to join in January.

James R Henderson Parking Guide

Drop off and pick up times are very busy, and we want to ensure the safety of all of our students and their caregivers as they enter and exit the school. Please consult the Driving and Parking Guide below to see where there are safe, designated parking spaces that are all within a 3 minute walk to the school. The area directly in front of the school is a designated student drop off zone: you must remain in your vehicle and are permitted to stop for a maximum of 3 minutes. A reminder that parking is not permitted on the shoulder of Roosevelt Drive opposite the school, and that the City of Kingston will be enforcing this no-parking zone. Thank you for ensuring that you help to keep everyone safe by respecting our drop-off and parking guidelines.
