Friday's Schedule
This Friday, March 27, 2020, will be a “Flex” day for distance learning. It is still an instructional day, but our teachers will not be posting new content. Instead, we are asking our students to use this day to catch-up on any work that they may have missed and our teachers will connect with students as needed, as this week there have been slow down the last two days when Schoology was experiencing outages, and also some slow down with Google. This was a nationwide technical challenge, not an issue with our GPS system. We know that families, especially those with younger children, are finding it increasingly challenging to keep pace because of the amount of “teacher” time needed. We also have some families who have stated that there is too much content in secondary to get through within a reasonable timeframe. We will continue to modify and adjust as we work as partners with our families. We thought that knowing this information about Friday’s schedule now could release some of the pressure for our families and teachers.
Input on Spring Break
Input on Spring Break
Additionally, below is a quick, one-question survey, asking for your input about our District's Spring Break. Any decision on Spring Break would be made by the Board of Education, but I’d like to share our general community’s perspective on Spring Break at our upcoming virtual Board of Education meeting so that the Board has an understanding of our community’s thoughts on this topic before they take any action on it.
Given that the extended closure now spans through Spring Break, the district is considering utilizing some of those days for distance learning. GPS would welcome your feedback. There are concerns that breaking routines for a week when students must stay inside would not be beneficial, and could cause social distancing to be more challenging for our families and students. This issue is especially concerning now that school fields, parks, and beaches are all closed.
Mental Health Resources
Our counselors, psychologists, and staff stand ready to provide resources if your child is finding this time in their life stressful. If our children do not feel safe and secure, it makes learning that much more difficult. Please reach out to the Mental Health Team at our school - they are here to help.
