Spotlight on Technology
The Diocese of Wollongong ran a ‘Spotlight on Technology’ event last Thursday and Friday at the Campbelltown Catholic Club. The event focused on practical way to use technology in the classroom with an emphasis on techniques and programs that have worked across schools in our Diocese and abroad. A highlight of the conference was hearing from aerospace engineer and retired NASA astronaut, Andy Thomas. It was great to hear how he credits the education he received growing up in Australia to where he was able to take his life and career.
During the conference staff workshopped hands on practical experiences with a range of technologies including VEX IQ robotics, microbit controller and programming, Grok into coding, managing student STEM projects, tech infused literacy centres, school wide literacy programs, building a culture of innovation within teaching practices using technology.
Year 8 students Amy Crisante and Sophia Laurantus presented to Diocesan staff about libraries and the impact reading has had on their lives.

DIO Girls Basketball
On Monday the 29 of October, two teams, consisting of junior and senior girls, competed in the Girl’s Diocesan Basketball competition for 2018. With the motivational guidance and expertise of our coaches, Mr Turner and Mrs Newell, all of the girls had a great day, with everyone enjoying their time both on and off the court supporting other players. All of the girls demonstrated great skill and sportsmanship throughout the day through their constant effort and encouragement of others. It was great to see everyone working together as a team as well as all of the girls, both senior and junior, supporting each other at every game.
We would all like to thank Mrs Newell and Mr Turner for their time and effort as our coaches and for making the day memorable and fun for everyone.

DIO Cricket
The St Benedict's Catholic College Year 7-9 Cricket team played with great sportsmanship at the recent cricket Gala day at Fairy Meadow. Whilst the weather was unseasonably cool, and the ocean breeze did not assist with play, the Bennies Cricketers were enthusiastic in the face of the opposition. They never gave up in their efforts to play their best and to support each other in both their triumphs and challenges. There were some great shots played with the bat and some fantastic overs bowled.
Well done to the boys, they are to be commended on their sporting spirit.
