Info
- School wide behavior: We have weekly lessons focusing on school wide behavior and our school wide rules: BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE! You can find the lessons we will be teaching on our school calendar on the website. Students will be taught the weekly lesson on Monday or Tuesday by their teacher. Check it out on the school calendar! In addition to the weekly lessons, students will also be recognized for doing their best by receiving Sparky Tickets or ROAR Tickets. Students are recognized for going above and beyond to be safe, responsible or respectful and can earn special prizes and privileges for their Tickets.
- SCHOOL SHOUT OUTS! Every day we give shout outs to our students staff during our morning announcements. Students and staff can write a special note of appreciation to recognize someone on campus for their support. We have a shout out box for parents in the office if you would like to recognize someone on campus, let us know!
- Attendance Matters: We've noticed an increase in late arrivals and early pick-ups. Please drop-off students on-time and avoid checking them out early, if possible. Late drop-offs and early pick-up causes disruptions in the classroom and to your child's learning. If your child is LATE, you will need to walk them into the office and sign them in

MUSIC NEWSLETTER
January 2019
Our patriotic song of the month is America the Beautiful (music by Samuel A. Ward and lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates) and our composer of the month is Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). The Four Seasons may be his most familiar work, especially the Spring section.
1st Grade: We are continuing work on high/low and long/short concepts. Some of our new songs this month are Bluebells (does your child know which is his/her birthday month?) and Hunt the Cows.
2nd Grade: The second graders have made great progress on their basic rhythms so far this year. They will continue this work in Toaster Time and Farmer in the Dell this month. They can recognize sound and silence in music.
3rd Grade: The third graders will begin their study of recorders this month. To prepare, we are learning mi-re-do songs and games, such as Hot Cross Buns and Three Blind Mice. A letter will be going home regarding recorder orders (also please see attached).
4th Grade: Mrs. Collins/Radtke’s fourth graders are continuing rounds, such as Scotland’s Burning. They have also begun a unit on Instrument Families: brass, strings, woodwinds, and percussion. They will be studying each group in depth, learning what they look and sound like, how they are played, and what they are made of.
5th Grade: In addition to reviewing old songs and games, the Mrs. Robbins’ fifth graders are starting a unit on Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). They will be learning a great deal about his complicated life and his compositions, and they will learn to play Ode to Joy on the piano!

Dear third grade parents,
The students in third grade will be using recorders in music class. We will provide each student a sanitized recorder to play during class until the end of the year. It will stay in the classroom, and students will not be permitted to take this recorder home.
Although it is OPTIONAL, we recommend that your child purchase his or her own recorder for home use. Though students will learn a great deal during class, they will excel more quickly with regular home practice. We have a limited number of clean used recorders for $ 1.00. These are first come, first served, and must come with an order form. We will also plan to place an order for a new recorder for $ 4.00 each.
Please fill out the bottom of this form and return it to Mrs. Guemmer or Ms. Van Hoy with cash only as soon as possible. Orders for a new recorder must be turned in by Monday, January 29th. No more orders will be taken after this date. Orders will most likely be distributed to students by mid February. Please note that this order is just an option. There are many websites that sell recorders, so feel free to order on your own! Also, we always appreciate donations for students in need or for additional classroom recorders!
Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00pm, the classes will be presenting a program showcasing their recorder skills. Please mark your calendars! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Guemmer at jguemmer@wpusd.org.
Thank you,
Mrs. Guemmer
Ms. Van Hoy

- Dogs on Campus: We love our furry friends but please keep them off campus. If you are walking your children to school with your dogs, please say your good-byes before you step on to campus. Not everyone loves dogs and it can be scary for some. We appreciate you keeping your four-legged babies off of school grounds. Thank you!
- Did you know our Student Handbook has been updated? You can find it on our website here: http://ccces.wpusd.org/Parents/Student-Handbook/index.html
- Choir meets every Monday from 1:50-2:50
- Please remember that supervision for students begins at 7:45am. There is no supervision for students prior to that. Please plan your mornings accordingly, we want our students to be safe!

Parking & Drop Off
Please note that parking is at a premium, particularly now that we have so many new families who joined us this fall. If you are arriving early and waiting with your child in your car, please consider parking along the street to ensure our staff can find parking when they arrive.
Entering Campus
If you are walking your child onto campus and plan to go past the big, black gate, you must sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor badge to be on campus. Remember to sign out when you leave as well. This helps us to account for everyone that is on campus.
