January Newsletter
American International School of Monrovia, 2023
Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2023!
Hopefully, everyone had a safe and enjoyable break. We are back and ready for the completion of semester 1 which is January 20th. Our second semester begins on January 23rd. We will conduct MAP testing Jan 24-26. Research shows that evaluating students mid-year gives greater insight into their accomplishments. As well as providing important data that will assist teachers in addressing individual strengths and challenges as we progress to semester 2.
It is with a grateful heart that we say a big THANK YOU to the AISM community for the donation of rice and oil to the 3rd Annual AISM Holiday giveaway. Some people brought in bags of rice and oil while others donated cash. This year we collected enough for 161 bags of rice. Our Old Road community benefitted greatly from this show of charity. Further, we were able to donate to a few local orphanages as well. Inflation has increased the cost of a bag of rice from $13 to $17. Your kindness and generosity is appreciated. Needless to say, the students were excited everyday to see the number changing as we reached our goal. What a great way to demonstrate one way of giving back. Again thank you!
The Holiday Pop -Up Shop was a small but mighty effort! Students sold items that they made during the After School Activities Program as well as some local vendors. We plan to continue and expand the Holiday Pop -Up shop next year as it was a HUGE success. Thank you to all involved.
Please check below for important dates and events.
Wishing everyone peace, health and happiness in the New Year!
Kind regards,
Dr.Bobbi

ACS to AISM
As you may or may not know AISM -The American International School of Monrovia was previously known as ACS- The American Cooperative School established in 1960. Unfortunately due to the Civil War of Liberia the school closed in 1990. It was been years in the making to reach out to the former students of ACS and welcome them home to AISM which opened in 2007. There was a herculean effort put forth to organize a weekend event to not only welcome ACS Alumni back to the former ACS campus but to raise funds for scholarships for Liberian students. ACS alumni are currently in the process of developing a giving campaign that will continue to support more Liberian students attending AISM. More information will be shared with the ACS/AISM community as we make progress towards community building and outreach.
Student Council Visit to Earth Angel Foundation Orphanage Article by Student Council
The Student Council created a plan to visit the Children Earth Angel Foundation orphanage as a service and giving project. The Student Council distributed school supplies, toys, rice, and oil. This project was a huge success, much to our joy. The Student Council paid a visit to the orphanage on Friday December 9th 2022. When we first arrived, the children performed Christmas songs to welcome us. We were able to introduce ourselves and speak with them. We learned that others are not as fortunate as we are, therefore we must be grateful for what we have. We also got to see the children's beaming smiles as we interacted with them and presented them supplies. We are glad for the chance to help people in need. We hope to visit other orphanages in the future.
