FOOD DRIVE TO SUPPORT NORTHERN ILLINOIS FOOD BANK

Compass Academy students are working together with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to address hunger in the community. To that end, the BFC, a student-run club, is organizing a food drive at Compass Academy. The most needed items are:

  • peanut butter
  • canned tuna/chicken (in water)
  • whole grain pasta and rice
  • cereal and oatmeal
  • dried beans and lentils
  • canned fruits (in juice)
  • low/reduced sodium soups, sauces, and vegetables
  • pasta sauce (no glass jars)
  • spices and seasonings

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING ITEMS IN TO THEIR ADVISORY TEACHER BY FRIDAY, 11/19.

ONLINE SPIRIT WEAR STORE

Great news! The Compass Academy online spirit store is now open! Offering Compass hoodies, fleece jackets, beanies, and more, students and families may place orders online between now and midnight on 11/21. All orders received in that window will be delivered to Compass Academy on 12/7, just in time for the cold weather and before the winter holidays. If you would like to place an order to be held in the office for a holiday gift, just email Mrs. Eutsler (karen.eutsler@d131.org) to make that request.

IS YOUR STUDENT INTERESTED IN TECH SCHOOL OR ENTERING A TRADE? TO LEARN ABOUT POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES, PLAN TO ATTEND THIS EVENT!

SPEAKER SERIES

If your student is interested in medicine or automotive repair and service, encourage them to join one of this week's sessions in our Speaker Series, offering Compass Academy students the opportunity to engage in conversations with people from a variety of careers.

Wednesday (11/10), 9:30-10:15 am:

Podiatric Medicine & Surgery, Dr. Karla Stipati

Wednesday (11/10), 2:15-3:00 pm:

Automotive Repair & Service, Steve Henquinet

Please have your student sign up through their Work-Based Learning course in Schoology. Students must attend at least three speaker sessions throughout the school year, submitting the related written reflections along with the eight project-based activities in the Schoology course to demonstrate competency in Career Exploration, which is worth a half-credit. This is something students should continue to work on each Wednesday.

Lunch orders are due by 8 am Monday morning.

EARLY COLLEGE CREDIT INFORMATION NIGHT

D303 is hosting an Early College Credit Information Night on December 1, 2021 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Charles North Auditorium. D303 offers in-school, part-time, and full-time options for Dual Credit through Elgin Community College. Representatives from Elgin Community College will be available to answer questions. Compass Academy students may also discuss this option for 11th and 12th grade students anytime by booking an appointment with Ms. Ohlson, the Compass Academy counselor.

CITY OF ST. CHARLES JOB SHADOW PROGRAM

The city of St. Charles is offering a job shadowing program that could provide opportunities for Compass Academy students on Wednesdays next semester! In the new career pathway job shadow program, which is open to St. Charles high school students interested in exploring a career in municipal government, students can shadow people in many career fields, including law enforcement, electrical engineering, accounting, construction, communications, and many more.

Students may schedule up to three different job shadow experiences per school year, during which they can explore work sites, ask questions, see demonstrations, and learn about education and certifications. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from the City. The date, time, and length of the job shadow will be scheduled outside of school hours directly with the City’s job shadow program coordinator. See the back of the Registration Form for a complete list of job shadow opportunities.

Interested students should complete the Registration Form and return it to Mrs. Stanley or Ms. Ohlson at Compass Academy.

DO YOU KNOW STUDENTS WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING COMPASS ACADEMY NEXT YEAR? INVITE THEM TO OUR OPEN HOUSE ON 12/7.

E-LEARNING PLAN AND EMERGENCY DAYS

The School Board has approved an E-Learning plan that gives the district the option to offer remote learning in place of emergency days. Currently, our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24, which is the week before Memorial Day. As we move into the winter months, we want to update you on the plan for how the district will manage emergency days and e-learning days.

If we experience inclement weather, the first three days will be “snow days” that will be made up at the end of the school year on May 25, 26, and 27 as needed.

Subsequent emergency days will be remote days so the last attendance day will still be before Memorial Day.

If there is a long stretch of inclement weather (blizzard, polar vortex, etc.), we may split the days into “snow days” and e-learning days so as to not have too many non-attendance days in a row.

ATTENDANCE CALLS AND STUDENT PICK-UP

Parents who need to report a student absence should call (331)228-3400 and follow the menu options. To speak with someone in the Compass Academy office during school hours, please call (331)228-6504.

Also, please remember- if you need to pick your student up early from school, after calling the office to inform us of this, park in the lot off of Oak Street (Staff Lot) and ring the buzzer at door 17, which is next to the baseball field. Your student will then sign out and meet you outside.
