Hillside Family Newsletter
I March 2017 I
Principal's Corner
Hillside Families,
As March arrives in all its bluster, we approach another formal opportunity for partnership to increase learning. At conferences on Tuesday, March 7, teachers and parents can collaborate and review student progress, make or adjust plans for improvement, and chart the way forward for the remainder of the year. While being conscious of the 3-5 minute conference parameter, as well as the availability of seating, I would encourage parents to bring their children to conferences in order to fully participate in the instructional conversation.
March is also the time where we begin to plan for fall transitions; 8th graders have already visited Mr. Koski at the high school and we will soon be introducing ourselves to the 5th graders who will become next year’s new Raiders. In addition, I frequently give tours to prospective families who are either pondering a move to the area or considering moving their child from a private or charter school. On those tours, your children have been excellent ambassadors for what Northville Public Schools and Hillside have to offer. After visiting some classrooms, seeing instruction, and hearing from your kids about what and how they were learning, one parent who had never attended a public school expressed her amazement about how warm, friendly, and confident our students are. She finished by saying, “This isn’t what I was expecting.” Well, it is what we expect. Administrators, teachers, and parents all hold high expectations for Hillside students, and they meet them. Regularly.
We look forward to continuing the partnership and focus on learning that make your children so successful.
