Hello Centerview families,
I hope you enjoyed a restful, safe and healthy break and are ready to jump into our final month of 2020!
Trimester one is coming to a close. Yes, we WILL have school this Friday, December 4. Originally, December 4 was designated a teacher workshop day. That day was moved to the beginning of the year for planning, so we will have school on Friday. However, there will be NO school as previously scheduled on Monday, December 7. Teachers use this day for end of trimester grading and reporting. Report cards will be sent home to you on Friday, December 11 and will also be available in Campus Parent Portal. More details to come next week.
As we transitioned into Extended Flexible Learning for all K-6 students this week, we want to hear how it is going. We have a 1-page overview that provides an outline of what you and your child should be expecting of this experience. This story - Experiences from distance learning - showcase how this compares to last spring. If you are not having this experience, I want to hear from you so we can work to deliver these expectations. Our goal is to create an engaging and personalized learning experience for your child.
This week, we paused all targeted at-school learning including center-based special education. The health care infrastructure is reaching a breaking point. We are working closely with our regional team to assess what can safely continue in our school given the public health situation and impacts to school staffing. We’re hoping to resume some targeted services as soon as possible.
We can all expect to be in Extended Flexible Learning (distance) through at least winter break. I’m sure this is not what anyone would choose. Conversely, I’m impressed with the immediate efforts of staff, students and families. For that, at Centerview, we would like to thank you once again for partnering with us and continuing to be flexible, adaptable and so persistent.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with an email, mcalla@district16.org or by phone if you would like to chat.
I wish you well and good health as we continue learning together!
Take care,
Mike
Welcome Back!
However you and your family chose to spend the recent break, I hope you found time to relax while enjoying the beautiful November weather. As we near the end of the first trimester there are some important details for you to be aware of.
Families that have been in Extended Flexible Learning throughout the fall continue to follow the district calendar and there are some important dates coming up:
- School will be in session this Friday, December 4.
- There is no school on Monday, December 7. This day is used by all teachers for grading, reporting and communicating with families.
- Your student’s Trimester 1 report card will be shared with you by your home school. Please look for distribution details from your home school in this newsletter.
While other K-4 students and families are transitioning into Extended Flexible Learning this week, we have been at this for a while. I have shared with you some successes that our students and families are experiencing, yet we still want to hear how it’s going. Please note this 1-page overview which describes what you should be experiencing. If this is not your experience, please reach out. Your student’s learning experience is our number one goal.
Take some time to read other important updates in this week’s newsletter. There are many other topics which may be of interest to you.
Have a great week. Thank you for sharing your children with us. It is truly an honor. Be safe…stay healthy…
