Maple Room
Children at Work 10.19 - 10.23
Emergent Curriculum
Several weeks ago a little girl began to make paper airplane after paper airplane. This started to encourage others. Soon there were tens of paper airplanes scattered across a table. Some children decided to see how well and far they could fly. As teachers, it's our responsibility to facilitate here. Turns out, and not surprisingly so, the little girl and several other children were interested in learning more about airplanes. An inquiry began. We studied the varying types of airplanes. The children were most interested in planes that could land on water. After some careful research and observation, two children used paper and pencil and reclaimed materials to design and construct a plane. We look forward to seeing where this goes over the next week or two.
Gliding past paintings by Big T, and early airplane plans.
Planning through drawing and writing, while also considering a list of needed materials.
Looking for a body of water upon which to land.
Children Prepared Delightful Kabobs
Exploration this Week
The hoops in the yard are a bit too high. We've come up with a reasonable solution.
Block building and design continues to grow.
Princeton supports Jeremy with the construction of his bird house. Thanks to Luca for all of your bird house inspiration.
Taking Some Time to Clean the Room!
Children organize the library and find lost books a bin while others sweep the carpet and floors. Children work in pairs to spray and wipe tables and chairs. The blocks are carefully being stacked and placed back on shelves. Others bask in the pleasantries of a room coming together.
Math and Literacy - Purposeful Exploration
Reading a favorite book again and again, slowly and evenly, while rocking.
Partners working together. These young readers are sharing some of their favorite literary moments with one another.
Children are exploring doubles, skip counting, and patterning after reading Grandma's Necklace. The children are sharing their thinking in such beautiful ways.
