Notes from the Library

Weeks of September 9-13 and 16-20

This Week in Library...

Monday: Day 5

I will see 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. We will be writing an acrostic poem about summer vacation and read How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Mark Teague. Students will all have the opportunity to check out 3 new books and put books on hold. We will put together lists for all the books put on hold on Monday afternoon and start delivering copies to the ones who get the first checkout.

Wednesday the 11th is Day 0 for all of the Encore classes to meet in the gym. We will write our Quality Encore Student, Quality Encore Teacher, and write the Cardinal Defender Pledge.

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday-Tuesday: Days 1-5

Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students all have library on their "Special" Day.

Kindergarten will listen to The Wonderful Book, sing The Library Song, and learn how to find a book they like from the shelf. We will also take their pictures for our library catalog.

First Grade will do a book care review with David from David Shannon's Books and watch a book care video.

Second Grade will read What Happened to Marion's Book and will work collaboratively to make Book Care Hedgehogs.

Books about Courage and Patience

These books are available in the library. A few are personal or public library copies, so ask Ms. V or Mrs. D for copies.

Zinio: Free Magazines from the Public Library

Do you have a Prince William County Library Card? As a teacher, you are allowed to get a PWC card even if you do not live in Prince William!

Zinio is a free magazine service available to PWC card holders. Chances are, Stafford County, Spotsy, and other counties offer the same service.

From this page you can create a Library Zinio Account. Choose magazines you wish to download. Create a Zinio Account (yes, you'll need two accounts). Then you can read magazines online or through any Zinio app (a free download for iPhone or Android).

I love Zinio because I can the one magazine I buy as a free download. I can also get the magazines I stopped buying because I wasn't a faithful reader. Now I don't have to feel guilty for buying something I don't read. I can read on the go as I'm walking the dog or while waiting in line! Magazines don't expire so you can read them at anytime. New issues will be automatically updated.

This video gives you a quick overview of the Zinio app in action!
