Coffee talk with Mr. Guzman
This committee will meet on a regular basis throughout the school year and is an opportunity for key stakeholders to have a voice in their school. The goal of our collaborative is to bring together those involved with our student body to be the students biggest advocate and work towards helping them to realize their potential and to achieve their goals. Input from parents and the community is vital to moving the school forward and achieving the goals we set for ourselves and our students. Each year, the Collaborative will be reorganized to maximize the number of parents involved and the demographics served.
This forum will be open to ideas and discussion about topics relating to the school and will give our Administration insight into how the parents and community view our school. For example, in previous Broadcasts I've discussed issues like Digital Citizenship and Mental Health, topics which are important to discuss and this week, I'm including information from the National Education Association and the National PTA about helping your student succeed in high school. Please take the time to review it as it discusses ways that you can help your student handle stress and learn time management.
The goal is to prepare our students for the world beyond high school but also to provide them with tools to help them be successful while they are here. Parent support is a key factor in this process and as we begin this Collaborative in the new year, I look forward to working with you for our students.

News & Notes
A note from the Blue Jays Football Team:
The Players and Coaching Staff would like to thank all of the students, faculty, staff, administration and community for their support at the State Championship game on Saturday. It was an amazing environment to see packed bleachers and a moment that we will never forget.
The Fashion Club is looking for models and dancers to participate in this year's fashion show. December 11th is the final day for open sign-ups - students interested in signing up should report to the cafeteria at 2:30pm sharp.
The Gaming Club is holding a Toys for Tots drive December 4th - 14th, toys should be dropped off in Mr. McCarthy's classroom, Room 402. Students should see Mr. McCarthy with any questions.
On December 5, 2016, Middlesex High School experienced the unexpected passing of our Principal, Mr. Joseph Sabato. In memory of Mr. Sabato, the faculty participated in a Dress Down Day on Friday, December 8th to raise money for the Joseph V. Sabato Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was created in his memory by the Sabato family.
Each year our band and chorus students provide entertainment at the Senior Citizen Luncheon hosted by the Middlesex Board of Education. Our Key Club students also volunteer at the luncheon to assist where needed. It is a great opportunity for the students to be involved with the community and the senior citizens very much enjoy their holiday luncheon.
MHS will be offering our students an Hour of Code, a nationwide initiative to introduce students to one hour of computer science and computer programming. The hour will be Thursday, December 14th from 2:30-3:30 pm in the Library Media Center. A flier is also attached.
Throughout the year, the display cases and bulletin boards around the school are created and updated by our teachers. Themes can change based on the teacher, class or activity that is responsible for that month. December is Drunk & Drugged Driving Awareness Month and Officer Auricchio and Mrs. Stringer, our school nurse, worked on the display case near our Main Office. To highlight the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, they created a car accident with significant damage to the vehicle which would jeopardize the lives of those involved in the accident as well as included examples of real accidents to bring to focus the consequences of making the decision to drive while drunk or drugged.
Academic Highlights
As part of their Community Based Instruction, our Project ACT students go into the community to work and gain skills that will benefit them upon their graduation from Middlesex. One of the locations you may see our students working at is SuperFood Supermarket where their responsibilities include stocking the shelves and bagging groceries.
Community Support
On November 16th, members of the MHS Environmental Club participated in a campus cleanup, filling 14 bags of trash collected from the MHS campus. Thank you to all who volunteered to make our community cleaner!

Shout Outs
Mr. Hintelmann organizes a Battle of the Beards each November to benefit Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This year's No Shave November Battle of the Beards raised $1,020 through online and in school donations - a new school record! There was a record number of students (boys and girls) and teachers who gave up their razors for the cause. Thank you to Lunch Box Waxing Salon and Cory Mathews Men's Salon for donating gift cards as prizes for one female and one male participant. A thank you also goes out to MHS alum, Donielle Wyatt Murray who allowed us to set up a donation spot at her salon, Primp Hair Studio.
This year, Mr. Hintelmann made a deal that if we exceeded the set goal - he would sport a blue and white glitter beard. True to his word, Mr. Hintelmann brought the glitter on December 8th.
