Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
March 29, 2020
Parents and Students,
Collegiate Academy is an amazing family and it is my honor to serve you. Thank you so much to everyone that has reached out to me with gratitude for everything the CA staff has done to help our students make this critical and unprecedented transition to online learning!
The 3rd nine weeks is history and tomorrow we begin the '4th nine weeks" without knowing exactly when this will all be over. I am certain, no matter what, the CA teachers will provide the BEST online instruction possible. This past Friday, Dr. Ryan announced GCISD would be closed through April 17, 2020.
Here are some guidelines to support student learning during Week 3 and beyond:
Starting this week, teachers will begin delivering new material to students, and we have put some processes in place to support you in the organization and planning of your learning routine. As we move forward with the fourth nine weeks, teachers will track student participation, monitor student progress, provide individual feedback to the student and note completion of work.
Here is the link for all CA coursework and daily check-in (9-12 My Daily Schedule).
You will have the autonomy to complete the weekly checklist in your own time. For example, you might want to do all activities for a class on one day or spread them out throughout the week - whatever works best for you. Please develop a routine and a schedule to complete the assignments that will be posted.
Some teachers may also choose to offer live Webex/Flipgrid/Digital lessons during the week. We have developed a schedule for our teachers to help ensure that any such opportunities should not overlap. In the event that you do miss a live lesson or activity, teachers will record and post this information in your weekly checklist or in Google Classroom for you to access at any time during the week.
All teachers will also be available for office hours (2-3 hours per day). These hours will be posted on each teacher’s Google Classroom and teacher website. During these times, your teachers will be readily available to answer any questions you may have regarding assignments or to offer additional support.

The most important thing students can be doing at this time is consistently checking your Blackboard and Google Classroom for each of your classes and regularly reviewing your student email by 8 a.m. each Monday morning, teachers will share links to weekly assignments and activities with you through these formats. College professors are not as accommodating as your high school teachers, so if they give you a deadline, make sure that you follow it.
Again, we appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this unprecedented time. Our teachers and staff are excited to support the growth and learning of EVERY Phoenix in the coming weeks!
Many questions are about prom, graduation (TCC & CA), awards assemblies, etc.
Answers: We will have a CA graduation graduation TBD! Prom, End of Year Awards, when will we go back to school? I don't know, yet!
Here is a message I received on Friday regardaing TCC Graduation:
We regret to inform you that our May Commencement ceremonies are currently postponed. Tarrant County College (TCC) will still confer degrees/certificates in May and mail diplomas to eligible graduates in June. We are exploring opportunities to celebrate our 2019 - 2020 graduates' achievements at a later date and hope to know more soon.
We understand this is an unprecedented situation and regret having to make this decision. However, the health and safety of the TCC students and TCC family are top priority.
Please continue to monitor your email in the coming weeks for additional information and 2020 Commencement updates.
As soon as I have any other information for seniors, I will get it to you as fast as possible. At Collegiate Academy, we are committed to taking it one day at a time, and our goal is to be better tomorrow than we were today.
I love and am so proud every single member of the Phoenix Family! We are #PhoenixStrong and we will get through this together!
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to email me. If I don't know the answer I will find it or direct you to the person that can answer your question!
Stay Well!
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Counseling News:
On Tuesday all students will be enrolled in a google classroom that will help them sign up for classes when they become available on APRIL 20th. There are several videos and a few surveys that the students will need to complete, as well as meeting with their pathways teachers. If you, or your student, have any questions about signing up for Fall classes please don’t hesitate to email me. This is an unprecedented time and we’re all learning together, but this is a time that your student needs to take control of their learning in order for us to be successful.
TCC’s drop deadline for spring 2020 classes (this semester) will be April 9th and TCC’s fall registration date will be April 20th.
For drops: You CANNOT just drop a class. You must first contact your pathways teacher and Mr. Cavanagh to get approval for the drop. You need to also be aware that depending on where you are in your graduation plan, this decision may take you off track for your Associate’s as well as independent study or Optional Flexible School Day.
For Summer Classes: If you’re interested in signing up for summer classes you should reach out to your Pathways teacher. They have access to a survey that they will send you that will act as an application. YOU MAY NOT TAKE ONLINE SUMMER CLASSES. I know that may seem counterintuitive considering the fact that we aren’t currently allowing face to face classes but our agreement with TCC does not include their online coursework, therefore if you were to sign up for an online course you’d be responsible for purchasing the textbook yourself.
Finally, if anyone is struggling with social emotional needs or is just bored and in need of someone to talk to feel free to send me an email and we can work on setting up a time to meet digitally. Stay safe!
