May the Force of Kentucky Library Media Standards Be With You!
Our School Libraries, Our Voice
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking input from a diverse group of stakeholders as it develops plans for the use of its portion of American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) funds.
KDE is gathering the input via an 8-question survey.
This is a great opportunity to express the value and potential of school libraries.

Member Spotlight: Kelli McDaniel
Kelli McDaniel grew up near Bardstown, KY, and has been working at Union County Middle School in Morganfield for the past 7 years. She lives with her husband and two beautiful dogs. She loves to cook, read, and travel. Prior to becoming the Library Media Specialist at UCMS, Kelli taught Social Studies for four years. She was recently elected as the president of the Green River Association of School Librarians (GRASL) for the next school year, and currently serves as the Spring PD chair. She is also the Vice-President of the Union County Education Association, a teacher representative on her school's SBDM council, and was a writing team leader for the State Library Standards' Writing Committee. Something exciting that happened this school year for Kelli was being able to visit students and classes by creating a library cart that traveled around the school. Students were able to listen to book talks, have conversations with Kelli about books, and check out books, all from within their classrooms and the hallways! Next school year, Kelli is looking forward to having more students in the library, but also continuing her outreach to classrooms and bringing the library to the kids throughout the school.
GRASL held its last meeting of the year at our annual Spring PD. New officers were voted on, GRASL Awards were given out, and KBA Grants opened. Congratulations to our new GRASL officers for the 2021-2022 school year. These individuals will serve on our Executive Board.
