A Note from Mrs. Cockrell
Hello, Chisholm Trail families! I hope you are enjoying the fall weather (or the hints of fall weather). We have lots of exciting things happening this month. The Buckaroo Race is right around the corner on Friday, October 25th. We look forward to a fun day to encourage healthy habits for our children while raising money to support learning.
If you are planning to attend the race, please make sure to pre-register online by October 23rd. After the 23rd, you will have to register on race day in the office. If you pre-register, you may check in at the front hallway by showing your ID and we will give you your pre-printed registration sticker. We are also saving Super Save receipts as part of Apples for Students from September 1 thru March. Any time you buy something at Super Save, save your receipt and send it to school with your student. This program also earns $$ for our campus to put right back into our classrooms.
Nurse Notes from Mrs. Lynch
It is important to remember that good physical and mental health is essential for every child’s educational development and achievement. I will be working throughout the year with teachers and community agencies to help your student be successful during his or her education. My goal as your School Nurse is to promote a safe and healthy environment in which students will be encouraged to become life-long learners, self-managers and self-advocates for health, education and other issues. I will also be screening students this year to identify any physical barriers they may be experiencing to make sure every child is ready and able to learn. Required State Testing
These state-required screenings will be performed during the 2019-2020 school year. Any problems or concerns identified during these screenings will be reported to the parent/guardian and referred to a physician for further evaluation.
Vision Screenings: Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade
Hearing Screenings: Pre-k, Kindergarten, 1st grade
Acanthosis Nigricans: 1st grade
Acanthosis Nigricans is a skin condition that signals high insulin levels in the body. It appears as a light brown or black, velvety, rough or thickened lesion on the surface of the skin. It can be found on the neck, armpits, and over the knuckles. Children who have the Acanthosis Nigricans marker on their skin may be at-risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns regarding the information provided.
Thank you,
