MST Magnet Elementary
Week of February 9th
Welcome Back!
Our theme for the 2015-2016 school year is MST Version 2.0: Uploading Excellence for 20 Years. This year marks our 20th anniversary! MST Magnet Elementary opened in 1995 at the Arapaho building and moved to the present location in 2005 after Richardson Junior High School was closed and repurposed. MST has built a legacy of innovation, creativity, and dedication to student learning that is immeasurable. It is through our partnership with our parents and community towards the devotion to student achievement and our genuine love for MST, that teach year has brought continued success.
Subscribe to MST e-newsletter!
Beginning in February, you will not be receiving the blue MST Newsletter in your Tuesday folder. To continue to stay informed about everything going on at MST, please subscribe to our e-newsletter which is updated twice a month. You may get all the MST news here:
Re-Enrollment for 2016-2017
A CURRENT PROOF OF RESIDENCE IS REQUIRED EVERY YEAR for Re-Enrollment. The Re-Enrollment Packet for 2016-2017 went home on January 26th. Please return the required paperwork by February 12th, to secure your place at MST. If it is not accompanied by a proof of residence (a gas, water, or an electric bill if you own your home or if you live in an apartment, it must be an apartment lease), your spot at MST is not secure. If you are not returning, please mark NO on the contract and return it to your teacher.
Kindergarten Enrollment for 2016-2017
ATTENTION: ALL MST FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN ELIGIBLE FOR KINDERGARTEN FOR THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR.
We are now taking enrollment applications for siblings of students currently enrolled at MST. If you plan to enroll a new student in Kindergarten or any other grade level for 2016-17, you will need to come by or call the MST office for the necessary application form. You must submit the application, along with a copy of your child’s birth certificate and a current proof of residence, to the MST office by March 18, 2016.

Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Yeager - Instructional Coach
I began my life in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but soon moved to Lubbock, Texas where I grew up as the daughter of a professor at Texas Tech. An advancement in my father’s career brought us to Dallas when I was in high school. I was lucky to land in a Richardson school as a Lake Highlands Wildcat! Since my mother caught me teaching a class in my sleep, and the fact that both my parents were teachers, there was no doubt I would go on to be a teacher myself. My college career took me to Texas Tech and then on to North Texas where I graduated with a bachelors and masters in elementary education. I began teaching pre-kindergarten for two years until Richardson ISD hired me. I taught third and fourth grade at Yale Elementary and then helped to open MST in 1995. I continued to teach third grade until I became an Instructional Coach in 2007. I now not only teach in Richardson, but I also live in Richardson! My husband and I have two amazing sons. One who is a computer/electrical engineer in Kansas and is soon to be married. Our other son is a United Sates Marine who takes part as a Ceremonial Marcher in Washington D.C. I love traveling to warm sunny beaches where I can read the day away! Most of all, I enjoy watching the Dallas Stars hockey team play. I am one true fan!
Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Cross - 3rd Grade Teacher
My name is Lindsay Cross and I am from Dallas, Texas. This is my third year in 3rd grade at MST and I LOVE it. I am a proud graduate of Texas A&M where I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. After graduation, I took some time off and went to Italy to become certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. After 8 weeks in Italy, I returned home to Texas and began substituting in RISD. Near the end of the school year, I took a job at Hamilton Park Elementary. The following year, I started my first full year as a third grade teacher at MST. I got married to my wonderful husband Daniel last summer. I am currently pursuing my masters in Library and Information Science to become a school librarian. I love working at a school and enjoying spending time watching the kids learn and grow. Outside of school I love to workout, hang out with my family, play games, and catch up on my favorite tv shows.
Staff Spotlight - Ms. Locke - 1st Grade
Hello! My name is Jacquelyn Locke and this is my third year teaching first grade at MST. My three sisters and I grew up in Plano and we all graduated from Plano East Senior High School. Two of my sisters still live in the Dallas area, the other lives in Waco, and my mother and stepfather live close by in Denton. I graduated college from West Texas A&M University. Besides teaching my fantastic first graders, I love watching movies, reading books, painting and playing games (video and board). I also love hanging out with my family and all the dogs!
Pasta for Pennies
It’s that exciting time of the year again, where MST shows their support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through our Pasta for Pennies fundraiser, presented by Olive Garden. Your child came home recently with a collection box. Encourage your child to collect donations (pennies, dimes, quarters, and even dollar bills) for this great cause. Students can bring their donations daily or on the weekly class collections dates, February 6th, 12th and 19th.
You can also donate online using the following link:

Our Chipotle Day will be Thursday, February 18th, so mark your calendars now. 50% of all sales go to the LLS, be sure to stop by for lunch AND dinner that day!
Please join us in this opportunity to give back. Last year, MST raised a total of $3,490! Our campus goal this year is to raise $4,000. Help make this goal a reality.
