Kindergarten Happenings

January Newsletter

HAPPY 2016!!!!

Bootsie and I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. December was a crazy and fast month in kindergarten but so much fun. We are looking forward to getting back into our routine and taking on the second half of the year.

Please note, Monday, Jan. 18th is a non-academic day but the school will be open.

Kindergarten students will begin spelling in January. Each week they will have a word list and assignments for homework. Then, they will be tested on the words on Friday. I am still working out my plan but I hope to differentiate the word lists based on your child's level. Be on the look out for more information.

Report cards for kindergarten will be distributed Friday, January 29th. Conferences are not required this quarter but if you would like one please let me know. If I feel we should have a conference, I will let you know.

Just a few housekeeping items:

  • Unless it is extremely cold or the playground is covered in snow, we do take the children outside. Please make sure they have hats and gloves as well as a heavy jacket. If we elect to play in the snow, we will let you know so you can send boots and snow pants.
  • Please make sure your child has a change of clothes that fit and are weather appropriate. I prefer not to borrow clothes from other kids but sometimes we have no choice so please check on that. Also be sure your child has underwear. Children still occasionally have accidents at this age.
  • We have been very pleased with the consistency of homework. Thank you!
  • Please work with your child on zipping and shoe tying if not already mastered.

As always thank you for your support and dedication to your child's education.

Look at Us Learning!

We love pattern blocks and magnetic shapes! They are always go to activities in the classroom but last month we worked on making designs and holiday shapes using the blocks and magnets.
In Science, we learned all about the sky! The Sun, the moon, and what we see in the day and night sky. We also looked at how the sky changes through the day and why it looks different at different times of day.
