Camp Creek Run Trip
We will venture out to Camp Creek Run with two other Second Grade classes from Stoy and Jennings this Friday. Please have your child wear green or Edison and dress for the weather, we will be outside the entire day! Please pack a disposable lunch and a snack and water bottle. Label everything with your child's name and 2T. Please do not bring a regular backpack on Friday, bring a sling bag or smaller backpack to carry a water bottle and snack for our trip. Your child will wear this backpack all day. We will store our lunches on the bus, so these should be in a separate lunch bag from their snack. We are looking forward to this wonderful day of outdoor learning!
Caldecott WEB Project
Students should have a Caldecott book for their WEB Project. Try reading it a few times and begin to plan your project. You could even start work on it this week! It is a good idea to do this project in stages, try not to leave the WEB project until the last minute. (This will cause much stress for both you and your Second Grader!) Pace yourselves and give your child time to be creative and enjoy completing the project at their own rate. Remember you can turn in the project at any time, however it is due November 13th.
Literacy
By the end of next week, your child will know a lot more about communities. We will look for answers to the question, “Why might an author write a story?” We’ll read Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon, a realistic fiction selection about Henry and Mudge exploring their community in different ways. We’ll also read Outdoor Adventures, a selection of e-mails between a girl and her grandmother as they discuss the seasonal changes in their communities.

If you child chooses to submit their work, I will send home a permission slip that you will have to sign before Friday.
Narratives
This week, 2T will continue on our narrative adventure in writing. We will begin to learn about writing fictional narratives! The students Have learned about a narrative diamond that highlights the parts of a good narrative writing piece. We will learn various ways to make a positive, first impression or lead. Using dialogue, actions, questions, thoughts, thoughts and feelings, and sound effects (onamonapia) the students will practice writing a memorable introduction which raises questions and curiosity. The students will also learn how to add elaborate details to their stories. By answering questions, they will have interesting ideas and opinions to describe an object or location.
Friendly Letters
We have learned the 5 parts of a Friendly letter: heading, greeting, body, closing and signature. Now we will put this to good use! We will be writing Thank you letters and Pen Pal letters this week and for the entire school year. Encourage your child to use this format at home when they are writing letters too!
