CHS Virtual Electives Fair
The CHS teachers from the different departments have put together videos for students and parents to learn more about the variety of classes offered at CHS. All of the videos are prerecorded, so feel free to view them at your convenience!
9th Grade students have room in their schedules to take four credits of electives, in addition to their core classes:
- English 9 (2 credits/year)
- Geography, World History, World History Dual Credit, or AP Human Geography (2 credits/year)
- Science (2 credits/year) - Biology 1 or next recommended course
- Math (2 credits/year) - Algebra I or Geometry
- Physical Education (2 credits/year)*
*Students who take one or two credits of P.E. in the Summer have room for one or two more elective credits.
Art
9th Grade Art Electives Include:- Intro to 2-Dimensional Art (1 credit/semester)
- Sculpture 1 (1 credit/semester)
- Printmaking 1 (1 credit/semester)
- Drawing 1 (1 credit/semester)
- Painting 1 (1 credit/semester)
- Digital Design 1 (1 credit/semester)
- AP Art History (2 credits/year)
Business
9th Grade Business Electives Include:- Intro to Business (1 credit/semester)
- Personal Financial Responsibility (1 credit/semester)
- Preparing for College & Careers (1 credit/semester)
English/Language Arts (ELA)
9th Grade ELA Electives Include:- Speech/Dramatic Literature (2 credits/year - competition program)
- Debate/Humanities (2 credits/year - competition program)
- Journalism/Student Media - Yearbook (2 credits/year)
- Journalism/Student Media - Newspaper (2 credits/year)
- Intro to Theatre Arts (1 credit/semester)
Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS)
9th Grade FACS Electives Include:
- Advanced Nutrition & Wellness 1 (1 credit/semester)
- Intro to Fashion & Textiles (1 credit/semester)
- Intro to Housing & Interior Design (1 credit/semester)
- Adult Roles & Responsibilities (1 credit/semester)

Industrial Technology

- Intro to Engineering Design (2 credits/year)
- Robotics Design & Innovation (2 credits/year)
- Principles of Design Technology (2 credits/year)
- Principles of Precision Machining (2 credits/year)
- Principles of Construction Trades (2 credits/year)
Performance Music
9th Grade Music Electives Include (each are 2 credits/year):
- Band (intermediate, advanced, jazz)
- Percussion (part of band)
- Color Guard/Winter Guard (flag corp)
- Choir (beginning, intermediate, advanced)
- Orchestra (intermediate, advanced)
Science

- PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science (2 credits/year)
Service/Career and Technical Education (CTE)
9th Grade SRT/Service Electives Include:
- Intro to Public Safety & First Responders (1 credit/semester)
Technology

- Digital Applications & Responsibility 1 (1 credit/semester)
