One Book One School Kick-Off
J.D. and the Great Barber Battle
Good Morning Moncure Families!
We are so excited to share about a special, community-wide shared reading event we are getting ready to kick off as a school next week! Every student will receive a copy of the book, J.D. and the Great Barber Battle, and will be asked to read it together at home over the next couple of weeks. A copy of the book and reading schedule will be sent home Monday, February 27th. We also would like you to attend a Virtual Kick-Off presentation the night of Monday, February 27th at 7 PM to provide an overview of the program, benefits, and how you can support from home! Additionally, each night a link will be sent out to families to listen to our Mystery Readers!
Reading aloud at home is valuable because it helps prepare your child to be an effective reader. Families reading together help children listen better and longer, build bigger vocabularies, and develop a positive attitude about books and learning. With this program, we are aiming to build a community of readers at our school. Students, parents, teachers, and support staff will all be following along together! When an entire school reads together, it generates excitement about reading and being part of a fun program. In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions based on the prior night’s reading. We encourage you to listen each night so your child can participate in our daily trivia challenges. We hope you enjoy this special reading time with your child!
