Parsons' New Assistant Principal, Mrs. Tracie Turk

It is with much excitement that I get to share with you that Parsons Elementary will have a new Assistant Principal serving our school next year. After interviewing many candidates, we knew we had an amazing leader right here in our building. Please join me in celebrating and welcoming Mrs. Tracie Turk as our new Assistant Principal. For those of you who know Mrs. Turk, you know what a gift she is. For those of you who do not know her, you will soon get to see her heart and passion for our school and our students.

Mrs. Turk will be filling the Assistant Principal position of Mrs. Stacey Philyaw who will be returning to Mason ES next school year where she will continue to provide her amazing leadership in our Peachtree Ridge Cluster. We will miss Mrs. Philyaw greatly but we are so appreciative of her year of service here at Parsons.

It's hard to believe we are already in the last nine weeks of this school year! We are busy making plans for end of the year events and already working on class schedules and class lists for next school year. To help us in the planning for next year, please take a moment to let us know if you will not be returning to Parsons Elementary next school year or if your 5th grader will not be attending Hull MS. If your child will be returning to Parsons next school year be sure to complete the Google Form to assist us in creating class list and determining student placement.

GMAS Parent Workshop

YOU'RE INVITED TO A GMAS PARENT WORKSHOP!

Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are invited to attend a GMAS Parent Workshop to learn more information about the tests, testing schedule, how to help your student prepare, and much more. Please join us in the cafeteria on Wednesday, March 22nd at 6:00 pm. Korean translation will be offered.

Book Mobile 5K

Do you love to run? Do you love to read and support reading initatives? Then the Book Mobile 5K is for you! Registration is open. There is also a fun run for the kids and a family discount. The race will be held on May 6th. Register today and help support the GCPS Book Mobile.

Kids Heart Challenge

The Kids Heart Challenge is starting this week! The Kids Heart Challenge focuses on teaching students how to achieve whole-body wellness. Your child can help to raise lifesaving donations for the American Heart Association. These donations will help support kids facing heart health issues. Visit Heart.org/KHC to register your child. Once you register, complete Finn's mission, start raising donations and collect Heart Heroes.

A Day in the Life of a Kindergarten DLI Student

STEM Math Competition

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia Gwinnett College would like to share a great opportunity for students interested in STEM. Georgia Gwinnett College is hosting the Sixth Annual Olifer Math Competition for students in grades 1-10 on Saturday, March 25, 2023. We are hoping that some students at Peachtree Ridge High School will participate.

This math competition is a celebration of future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors. Children are natural problem solvers and like to think outside of the box. The problems used in this contest are designed to inspire them and encourage them to engage with this kind of thinking. It will be a different and unique experience from what children usually experience in the classroom. Solving problems and meeting other children in a collegiate environment will make this competition an unforgettable event.

The registration is $10 per participant and seats are limited. For each grade, the first three places at the competition will receive special math prizes and all participants will receive recognition for their participation. The flyer and some sample problems from previous years are attached. Here is a link for registration and QR code:

Link Your Beanstack Account with GCPS & GCPL

We are excited to announce that tandem Beanstack accounts with GCPS and GCPL are now live. *Important: The school and public library accounts must be linked from the web. See the attached directions to link the accounts. Once the link is created, any reading logged on the mobile or web apps will count toward both profiles. Your child can now count reading minutes at GCPL and at Parsons for different challenges throughout the year!

AKS At Home

As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, the school district seeks to empower parents with tools that allow them to help their children at home. Our AKS at Home project provides math and language arts resources to support families of children in grades K-5 so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. This support is available for families to access in the format that suits them and their schedule best. They can attend live virtual meetings, view recorded information, and gain tools and suggestions on how to best help their children through tip sheets on a wide variety of topics. Peachtree Ridge CARE Closet

We have a variety of shelf-stable pantry items, hygiene products, and some clothing available. We will also have 5 produce boxes available for pick-up before Winter Break. Families are welcome to shop the CARE Closet, or we can prepare bags for them. Our office is happy to have these ready for pick-up or drop-off at a family's residence or a discrete location.
