February 2016

New Year.....New Year's Resolutions

At the beginning of each new year, many of us make New Year's resolutions. Now that the 2016 year is upon us, we are making the resolution to update the photo on the Bedminster homepage weekly. With the help of our 5th Grade Leadership students, we are confident we can make this happen. We'd like to encourage you to check our homepage each Monday to see if your child or child's classroom is in the "spotlight!"

Digital Passport

Pennridge School District recently launched a Digital Citizenship program entitled Digital Passport within Pennridge Elementary Schools. Provided by Common Sense Media, a non-profit organization that provides educational content for students, parents and teachers related to making informed decisions online, Digital Passport includes a series of five "missions" that students complete for a virtual badge. The gamified aspect of this program has proven popular with young students at the elementary level. Each student in grade three through five received a letter with the username and password information in January, and can be working towards earning a Digital Passport Certificate of completion awarded to those that complete each module. Please visit the Pennridge Technology Integration page for more information about this program.

Mr. Sadowsky's First Grade Class

In a connection with a first grade Reading Street story, "Animal Park," Mrs. DiPaolo and Mr. Sadowsky took the students in room 23 on a virtual African Safari adventure. Using Google Tour Builder, Mr. Sadowsky and Mrs. DiPaolo embedded actual pictures from Mrs. DiPaolo's trip to an African Safari in the summer of 2014. Also included in the presentation were maps and facts about the various places and animals she visited on her trip.

Mrs. Leatherman's Fourth Grade

Students in fourth grade have been thinking like historians. They asked family members about their ancestry. Students were able to tell about their country of origin, foods and traditions that they celebrate. They were also able to tell any interesting facts they learned about their ancestors. This all led up to a Social Studies lesson on the Peopling of the United States and the five ethnic groups that help make America what it is today.

Jump Rope for Heart

The kick off for collecting money for the American Heart Association starts February 1-19, 2016. Mrs. Cohen's Kindergarten Class

Mrs. Cohen's Kindergarten class celebrated Martin Luther King day by learning about kindness. They read several stories about the importance of being kind to everyone. The students also learned about differences by looking at a brown egg and a white egg. We talked about how although the two eggs looked different on the outside, they were exactly the same on the inside.

Miss Silvi's Third Grade Class

With the turn of the new year, third graders in Miss Silvi's class celebrated the arrival of 2016 by creating "New Year, New Me" hanging mobiles. We reflected on all of the great events that happened in 2015, as well as dreamed of many exciting things to come in 2016. After that, each student set academic and personal goals in order to make 2016 the best year yet! We can't wait to see what 2016 has in store for us and achieve our new goals!

The FINAL deadline to submit a baby/toddler photo of your 5th grade student for the yearbook is February 5th, 2016. If we do not have the picture by this date we cannot guarantee your students’ baby picture will make it into the yearbook. Email is preferred as the photograph being in a digital format is most conducive to its placement in the yearbook layout, but we understand that you may not have one. When emailing your photo, please put your child’s name in the subject line. If you want to scan a hard copy yourself, please make sure the resolution is at least 300 dpi. If sending in a hard copy of a photograph, please place it in an envelope labeled Yearbook. We’ll scan it for you and it will be returned to you. Please make sure it is clearly labeled with your name, your child’s name and their teacher. We appreciate your support and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at
