Keeping Up With Comm Arts

October 4 - October 8

Dear Comm Arts Students and Families,

There is a lot happening in the next 2 weeks here at Comm Arts and Taft! We have our Homecoming Week approaching, PSAT/SAT Day and the end of the 1st Grading Cycle. Please take some time to review the calendar, check grades and attendance and complete any necessary items.

Yearbook Week

Most yearbookers know that just being on yearbook staff is cause for celebration. But in case that wasn’t enough, each year in early October there’s an official one-week holiday, declared in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan to recognize this important school publication.
National Yearbook Week honors school yearbook programs for chronicling their school’s history and the students who work to compile these memories into a lasting printed record.
While Yearbook Week seeks to recognize the role a school yearbook plays in documenting educational achievement and school tradition, it’s not just a holiday for yearbook staff.
If the yearbook is for everyone, so is yearbook week! National Yearbook Week begins October 4th!

Jostens Ring Orders

Jostens will be o campus on October 15th for a Ring Presentation and will return on October 20th to take Ring Orders. Any questions should be directed to Jostens.

Homecoming

Homecoming

We will celebrate our homecoming week the week of October 12-16. Students will be allowed to dress up for the different themes each day as long as they follow the dress code. Our homecoming pep rally will be held on Wednesday October 13th at 6:00pm on the football field. Our homecoming football game will be played on Thursday October 14th, 7:00pm at Farris Stadium against Stevens. Our homecoming dance will be held in the Taft High School Cafeteria on Saturday October 16 beginning at 7pm and concluding at 10:30pm. Tickets will be sold online.

Homecoming Dance Tickets

All tickets to the Homecoming Dance will be sold online. A student ID number is required as a passcode for purchase. Only Taft and Communications Arts students are eligible to purchase tickets. Once the e-ticket is scanned, it will no longer be valid. Please do not share your ticket or ID# with anyone else. A valid Taft/Comm Arts ID will be needed to enter the dance. If you are bringing a guest that does not attend Taft/Comm Arts a "permission slip" will need to be picked up and turned in to the Taft VPO beforehand. The permission slip is located in the VPO office at TAFT. Once the guest is approved they will be eligible to purchase a ticket as well.

Comm Arts Video Announcements

Check out our new Friday video announcements. Follow us on Youtube to catch the premiere each Friday at 10 a.m. and find other students produced videos.

Yearbook

We are living through historic times and the best way to remember everything that happens this school year is by purchasing a yearbook. Yearbooks are on sale now through the end of the year, but if you want the cheapest price of $70 you need to order by Friday, October 15. The price increases to $75 on October 16 and then to $80 on January 29th. Orders are done through jostensyearbooks.com.

If you ordered last year’s and have not picked it up, we will be delivering those to students next few weeks or you can contact Mr. Kohlmann at Taft to arrange pick up sooner. If you did NOT order last year’s, but would like to purchase one, we still have some available for purchase for $80 or you can purchase a package deal of last year's and this year's yearbook at $120. That's a $30 savings. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. McCarthy in room C205 before or after school.

Yearbook Pictures (9th-12th Grades)

Students and parents, please be aware that in order for students' pictures to appear in the yearbook, students must be in dress code. This includes no facial piercings or unnaturally colored hair. If you took your picture with either of these or any other violations, please plan to retake them or you will NOT be in the yearbook. We will not be editing the photos.

Additionally, please note that students will be identified by their legal name.

And finally, only photos taken by Prestige for seniors or Lifetouch for underclassmen can appear in the yearbook.

We appreciate your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact our yearbook adviser Mrs. Carey McCarthy carey.mccarthy@nisd.net.

Yearbook Recognition and Business Ads

Dear Parent or Student, Yearbook recognition ads are a great way for parents, families and friends to commemorate student achievements and important milestones. In addition, revenues from recognition ads help our school to create a better yearbook. To purchase your ad online, follow the instructions on the form below. Jostens is managing your school's yearbook ad sales so please do not contact or send materials to the school. Please take into account our school's ad content guidelines on the bottom of this form during the creation of your ad online. All ad orders must be placed online by 02/10/2022. See the attached flyer for more information.

Are you a member of a booster club, a student club/organization or a team? Would you like to have more coverage in the yearbook? Then purchase a recognition ad. This gives your group the control over the content y'all want to share. See the attached flyer for more information.

Do you own a business or work for one that appeals to teens or our community?

Showcase your business in the book that never loses its appeal. Students and their families will flip through the pages of the yearbook hundreds of times and cherish it for a lifetime. In addition, proceeds from ad sales are a fundraiser for the yearbook program at our school. We appreciate your support! See the attached flyer for more information.
