Hamlin Media Center

End of Year Information - 2015

2014-2015

It's been another wonderful year being the Information Literacy Specialist at Hamlin Elementary! I'm so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with your wonderful students and the staff here at Hamlin. We've had a wonderful and busy year in the Media Center, so check out some of the information below to give you a picture of what we've been up to!

Book Checkouts

Book checkouts ended for the year, and all books were due back to the library on May 29th. Overdue notices were sent by email this week for students who still have books checked out or fines due to damaged books. The cost for replacement books is $20 and can be paid by cash or check. Please make checks out to Rochester Community Schools. Thank you for helping our school maintain its wonderful library collection! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you to my wonderful volunteers who have been diligently working to complete inventory of our collection!

This year, our students and faculty checked out library books over 8,000 times! We are fortunate to have 11, 361 books available in the library for student use, and I focus each year on adding to the collection in a way that will enhance what we currently have or further develop a section. Look for more updates on my website under "All About Reading" for more books added to the library in the upcoming school year!

New Additions to the Media Center!

This year, over two hundred books were added to the Hamlin Media Center collection! These books included a variety of subjects and reading levels. I focused on developing our very small graphic novel collection this year, and I will continue to do so in upcoming years. Graphic novels are a great way to get students interested in reading that may not be traditionally engaged. We are continuing to repair books in our collection as well to extend the life of the materials we have. In order to do so effectively, I also invested in book repair supplies to assist with this process.

Thirty sets of headphones were also added to the computer lab to replace old headphones that were quickly failing to work. The new headphones are specifically designed to be used in a school setting and are durable and child-sized.

Hamlin Media Center's New Home Online!

If you haven't already checked out our new homepage, please do! There you'll find information about the Media Center, policies, resources for reading and research, and updates regarding what is happening in my Media classes under the "Media Minute" section!
