The Value of 'Failing'
Encouraging Risk-Taking in a Safe Environment
What's an OOPS Wall?
An OOPS wall is a place where our work 'to be improved upon' is displayed, along with space for comments and suggestions, much like the YouTube video we watched.
Ideas for Implementation in the Classroom
*Start out with whole-group projects to set expectations at beginning of year (ex. class-wide scientific method/design-process activity with areas for improvement/discovery)
*Students add sticky-notes or write on the designated space their ideas for improving the project
*Before individual student work is posted, teacher example/model is posted.
*OOPS wall items should NOT be/have: bad grades, negative stigma, final products, etc.
*OOPS wall items SHOULD be/have: room for improvement, part of the process, solution-driven, etc.
*Other examples might include:
-writing piece in the editing/revision stage
-science experiments during the analyzing data stage
-teacher posting of a class-wide or school-wide problem/issue/hot topic ("What are your ideas for how we can still get our WOW time without the track?")
*The OOPS wall can lead to relevant and authentic discussions during community/SEL time.
