ICCS Mission Statement:

Strengthening spirits... minds... bodies... Through the teachings of Jesus Christ.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

The ICCS administration, faculty, and staff would like to wish all students and families a very blessed Thanksgiving. Have a safe and happy holiday!

Dear God,

We thank you, Father, for the gift of Jesus your Son who came to our Earth and lived in a simple home. We have a greater appreciation of the value and dignity of the human family because He loved and was loved within its shelter. Bless us on this Thanksgiving; may we grow in love for each other in our family and give thanks to You who are the maker of all human families and our abiding peace. Amen.

ICCS will be closed Monday, November 22-Friday, November 26. Classes will resume on Monday, November 29.

THANKFUL FOR OUR ICCS COMMUNITY

We truly have an abundance to be thankful for as an ICCS community. This week our school celebrated the Eucharistic Congress with our Middle School students participating in Adoration with Father Rommel at the Cathedral on Tuesday. This worship of the Blessed Sacrament then continued the next day, Wednesday, when we celebrated the Eucharistic Congress with Mass (PK-8th grades) and Eucharistic Procession (2nd-5th grades) around our campus with Father Rommel and Father Bond. The Mass where Father Bond reminded those present that we should continue "to pray for the grace to be authentic in our love," and where we welcomed our families to participate in Mass and watch the conclusion of the procession was simply beautiful. It was so nice to be able to celebrate as a community and it served as an important reminder that as we walk into the Thanksgiving holiday to be authentic with our love of others and love of our community. This week also had opportunities for our middle school "big buddies" to help their "little buddies" with Thanksgiving projects during their recess time. Tomorrow we will have an elementary pep rally and we will also celebrate our outstanding Greenery Sale with popsicles for all of our students. We are grateful for the nice weather to be able to use our outside space for such celebrations that bring us closer together as a community. I sincerely wish you all, our families, students, faculty, and staff a wonderful, restful, and prayerful Thanksgiving holiday. I am ever grateful for each and every one of you.

From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CATHEDRAL PARISHIONER?

As we near the end of 2021, all Immaculate Conception Cathedral families are reminded of what qualifies parishioners to receive subsidized tuition rates. The Cathedral parish has set the following criteria: to be officially registered with the Cathedral, to worship regularly by attending Mass and participating in parish functions and activities, and to offer financial support by contributing to the church regularly. Families should check with the Cathedral office if they are unsure of their status. For more information, call the Cathedral office at (337) 436-7251.

NO TURKEYS HERE!

Turkey? What Turkey?? Mrs. Stine and Ms. House's Kindergarten students recently sprang into action after reading Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano. The students worked hard to cleverly disguise turkeys in an effort to help save them from being the main course menu item on Thanksgiving Day. Check out more photos of this creative project on the ICCS Facebook page!

WILD ABOUT PUNNETT SQUARES

Gobble! Gobble! Our 7th Grade Science classes practiced the Punnett square method to make predictions about what each feather of the turkey would look like. Students had fun "customizing" their turkeys.

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

Mrs. Koenig and Ms. Wilson's 1st Grade students are learning about past, present, and future in Social Studies. The students designed an informative timeline poster that utilizes photographs from their own past and present. The students had to share a skill that they mastered at the age they were in the picture, for example crawling, walking, riding a bike, etc. Each student presented their poster to their classmates. This project was an enjoyable experience for the students and teachers.

SOUND PROOF ROOM CHALLENGE

Mrs. Brittany Ebersole's 8th Grade Science students are testing their knowledge of wave absorption with a "Sound Proof Room" challenge. Students have been designing, building, testing, and redesigning constantly this week. If students had a lower reading, they successfully made their "room" more soundproof. If their readings went up, they had to define what the engineering issues were and change their design accordingly.

KINDERGARTEN SCIENCE EXPERIMENT

Ms. House's Kindergarten class recently concluded a reading unit on plants. The class thought it would be fun to open a pumpkin being used as a classroom fall decoration to see if it had new seeds in it. They not only found new seeds but also discovered some had already sprouted and had roots inside.

SPANISH I PROJECT

Senora Darcy Garcia's Spanish I students have been working on the conjugation of verbs. The students recently completed a project that required them to create special flashcards to help them remember the process. The projects are on display on the 3rd floor.
