6th Grade Wolverine Weekly

Week of March 7th-11th

College & Career ~ Ms. Parker, Mrs. Dickerson, and Mr. Thames

  • We will be exploring budget planning, debit card transactions, simple and compound interest.

  • On Friday, students will create their own budget based off of the average salary of the career of their choice.

  • Vocabulary: expense, transactions, budget, debit card, simple interest, compound interest

Pre-AP Science ~ Mrs. Goulding and Ms. Mondon

  • We can calculate average speed using distance and time measurements.

  • We can measure and graph changes in motion.

  • Academic Vocabulary:

  • We will be working to understand how can measurements, calculations, and mathematical formulas & models be used to show the relationship between force and motion.

  • Weekly homework will be notes from Science Fusion Unit 4 Lessons 4 & 5.

  • Our Assessment will be Thursday over speed graphs and how to calculate speed and will include potential and kinetic energy.

Pre-AP Math ~ Mrs. Justice

  • This week students will:

    • Identify independent and dependent quantities from tables and graphs.

    • Write equations that represent the relationship between independent and dependent quantities from a table.

    • Represent a given situation using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs, and equations.

    • Graph points in all four quadrants using ordered pairs of rational numbers.

  • The daily warm-ups this week will cover multiplying and dividing positive rational numbers. Students will have the weekly warm-up quiz on Friday.

Accelerated Math ~ Mrs. Baird

  • Our Assessment over finances is on Tuesday.

  • The 8th grade Math STAAR is quickly approaching.

    • We will begin boot camp on Wednesday.

    • This will include reviewing all TEKS, vocabulary and a daily worksheet of 10 questions that if not completed in class is due the next class.

STEAM Science ~ Mrs. Cornell

  • I can compare and contrast potential and kinetic energy.

Students Need to Know:
  • What potential & kinetic energy are and how to differentiate between them.

  • Unbalanced forces cause change in motion.

  • Over the next week, students will be comparing and contrasting Potential and Kinetic Energy. Students will be completing projects to verify your understanding of Potential and Kinetic Energy.

    • There are the options for the project. Each option has been given a point value: Choose a combination of projects to meet your required number of points.

    • Projects will be due Friday, March 11, 2016 and will be their summative grade for this learning target.

  • This week’s homework will be notes for Unit 4 Lesson 1 and will support their learning for this project.

Humanities ~ Ms. Curtis and Mrs. Lindamood

In ELA this week,

  • Achieve3000 article “What Kids Eat at School”

  • We will address the questions on the LBA that we missed and talk about “distracter” questions

    • We will reteach and reassess standards that were most commonly missed on the LBA.

  • Literature Circles will continue, and students will progress in their novels of choice

  • Students should be completing 2 Achieve3000 articles each week, one in my classroom and one in STEAM U.

In World Cultures this week,

  • Middle East Test Monday March 7

  • We will show (or perform) our “Come visit the Middle East” commercials this week.

Art ~ Mrs. Bishop

This week students will be finishing up their portraits. Students will present and critique as their class finishes.They will be starting their research of perspective drawing, anime and graphic design. Burleson District Art Show is at the Brick March 22-24th. The reception is the 24th from 5:30-7:00.

Art ~ Mrs. Dickerson

This week students will select their favorite abstract art style and begin painting it. They will look to inspiration from a famous abstract artist of their choice as well as their still life.

Beginning Band ~ Mr. Sypert

  • Solo contest was a big success.

  • Students will soon start working on Spring Concert Music.

  • Students are already working on audition scales for next year’s band placements which will be done in May.

PE ~ Coach Woolsey

  • Finishing up all FitnessGram tests and make-ups.

  • Weather permitting this week: Monday fun day RUN day, Tues/Thurs: Noodle Hockey, Wed: exercises, Fri: Free Choice

  • Rain days: Health Lesson & starting Badminton rules, equipment, history, game strategy slides.
