The Principal's Den- Helping us all to stay STRESS FREE
It was a year ago yesterday that I was officially named principal of Sunset Valley. I was so excited and joyful to have been given the opportunity. Since then, I have completely changed my way of thinking. One year ago today, on my personal Facebook page I shared an article, titled "10 Mistakes Unhappy People Make Daily". Now, don't judge the title of the article! :) I was not an unhappy person. I was simply a person that needed a swift kick in the you know where so that I could empower myself in new ways. Empowerment is the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's life and claiming one's rights. When you took a chance and joined the rest of us at SVES, you too may have wanted to empower yourself in new ways. Let's keep it up, Bobcats!!! Here is a synopsis of the 10 ways to stay on track!
- Don't lose track of what you want, because then you lose track of yourself.
- Life is about sharing happiness, not sacrificing it.
- Remember, failure is not the end--in fact, it's often the beginning.
- If you can do only one thing, cutting the inner critic voice loose is a great start
- Life is not about pleasing others but giving yourself the best possible version of your life
- Learn to focus on the things you can control, beginning with your own reactions, and let the rest of it go.
- Learn to appreciate what you already have and be grateful for every need that is met. No one has ever been miserable while counting his or her blessings.
- Walk away from negativity. Surround yourself with people who lift and energize you
- Work on just being your best self. Perfectionism is overrated.
- There is great power and strength in forgiveness and moving on.
Everything is coming up Sunset Valley!!!
In the morning they will film "Let's Get Real". This is a 2-3 minute monthly video that focuses on a special program or project that the campus is proud to spotlight. In the afternoon, after the Brown Bag Luncheon, they will be filming "In the Loop with Dr. Reid". This is a brief sit-down discussion on something the campus wants to highlight. It is an audio recording, but now also includes a wide shot video camera for a “behind the scenes” look at the podcast. These are usually done in a classroom and focuses on learning.
The initial plan for each of these segments is as follows:
Let's Get Real - filming will begin at 10:00 am
Our Pride Rallies and our Bobcat Bash (this is part of our PBIS initiative) -
- I would say something about creating a positive culture/climate. Jen would share information about our Pride Rallies. We would then invite one student & one teacher that have been recognized from our PRIDE rallies. All would be asked what it meant to them to be recognized and how this has helped our culture be positive.
In the Loop with Dr. Reid - filming will begin around 1:15 pm
- Alamo project - students used a green screen & QR codes to create an interview of a famous Texan. Teachers that lead this activity and one of their students would talk about the project itself and what they learned from doing it.
The Bobcat 6
- Be prepared every day.
- Intentionally plan using a variety of strategies to meet the needs of all students.
- Seek solutions and always focus on what is best for kids.
- Know what you need to learn and seek the knowledge out.
- Build positive relationships and communicate effectively.
- Be accountable.
