MISSION STATEMENT:

A Message from Mr. Soderberg
It's hard to believe April has finally arrived and we are enjoying warmer weather, rain, sunshine, and green grass. Oftentimes, this time of year brings a sense of renewed hope and excitement for what is yet to come. That is clearly the feeling around the high school as we anticipate the many exciting events and activities of April, May, and June.
The students and staff have worked hard to make the best of a difficult situation and have found many opportunities to grow through the challenges of this year. I am very proud of their efforts, commitment, and desire to participate fully in all this year has offered.
Enjoy the change of seasons and thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.
Go Panthers,
Mr. Soderberg

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
REMINDER...
Medication Policies and Procedures according to Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
How must nonprescription and prescription medications be sent to school? If the nonprescription medication is supplied by the student’s parent or guardian, it must be supplied in the original manufacturer’s package, and the package must list the ingredients and recommended therapeutic dosage in a legible format. Prescription medications must be supplied in the original pharmacy-labeled package. The package must list the name of the pupil, name of the prescriber, name of the prescription medication, the dose, the effective date, and the directions in a legible format. It is considered best practice to have all medication delivered to school by the parent or guardian or other designated adult (Davis-Alldritt and Patterson 2017, 384). School districts should consider the unique needs and environments of their communities, such as environmental factors and socioeconomic challenges that may create barriers to the safe delivery of medication to school. These issues should be addressed in school medication policies (NASN, 2017). See Question 13.
What documentation is required for a school to administer medications? Nonprescription medications: Administration of nonprescription medications to a pupil requires written consent and instructions from the pupil’s parent or guardian (Wis. Stat. § 118.29[2][a]1.a). Administration of nonprescription medications to a pupil in a dosage other than the recommended therapeutic dose may be done only if the written request to do so is also accompanied by the written approval of the pupil’s practitioner (Wis. Stat. § 118.29[2][a]1.b). A practitioner is defined as a physician, dentist, optometrist, physician assistant, advanced practice nurse prescriber, or podiatrist. A practitioner may be licensed in any state in the United States (Wis. Stat. § 118.29[1][e]). Prescription medications: Administration of prescription medications to a pupil requires written instructions from a medical practitioner, as well as the written parent or guardian consent (Wis. Stat. § 118.29 [2][a]2). All medication administration: Authorization for the person to administer the medication to the pupil must be in writing from the administrator or principal of the school district or governing body (Wis. Stat. § 118.29[2][a]). Each dose of medication administered must be documented, along with any errors (Wis. Stat. § 118.29[4]). It is considered best practice for documentation to occur immediately after giving the medication and by the individual administering the medication. Any other documentation required by the local written policy
St. Croix County Public Health Announcement
St. County Public Health has issued a Mask Advisory effective until June 6th. The Mask Advisory is an effort to protect the people of St. Croix County from COVID-19 in the absence of a statewide mask mandate in Wisconsin. Currently, we are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases and a high level of community transmission in the county. In March, the county also reported its first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7. This variant is spreading throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota and researchers believe it may be associated with an increased risk of death compared to other variants.
Under the Mask Advisory, Public Health recommends every individual, age five and older, in St. Croix County wear a face mask if:
- The individual is indoors, other than at a private residence; and;
- Another person or persons who are not members of an individual's household or living unit are present in the same room or enclosed space.
In addition to the Mask Advisory, Public Health has updated the Health Advisory on the St. Croix County website to include guidance for individuals, gatherings, and establishments based on the current COVID-19 risk level in St. Croix County.
The St. Croix County Mask Advisory and risk level information can be found on the Health Advisory Page of the St. Croix County website: https://www.sccwi.gov/951/Health-Advisory
