Dear Parents,

Good evening parents! We are now in October. Seems like just yesterday we all just met and school just started. It is amazing how time flies when you're having fun! A few quick announcements.

Please check our class website for updated topics for this coming week. We will be retesting Chapter 2 Math (Multiplication / Multi-step Word Problems on Monday).

Important Dates

Current: Accelerated Reader tests are being taken in class. This is a part of their reading grades students must complete their target points by the end of the quarter. Please visit to find if the book your child is reading is an AR book.

Oct 9 - Oct 22 Parent-Teacher Conferences, if you have not done so, please sign up for a time slot for a parent-teacher conference. If you need we can make alternative plans or phone plans.

This Past week WE ...


  • We will read "The Life and Times of the Ant"
  • Grammar we worked on Verbs, Main, Linking and Helping Verbs
  • Our spelling words are words all had the long e
  • In Writing we are beginning to work on how to create sentences, this will continue next week, with working on creating writing with a voice
  • We started working on and testing Cold Reads; this is a strategy assessment. It focuses on the target strategy and assess them on that skill, the only thing is the story is new and they have never seen it before.


  • Continued reinforcement of foundational math
  • Looked at how multiplication is used in the Real World
  • Worked on Single and double digit multiplication facts
  • Learned: prime, composite, factors and products


  • Scientific Method
  • Matter, Mass and Volume
  • STEM - Lab was on Wednesday

  • AR Open Testing 8:15 - 8:40 am

  • Vocabulary Quiz on Weekly Reading Vocabulary Words to help students prepare for Reading test on Friday
  • AR Status Reports Pulled at 4pm
  • Spelling Test (In the Grade book it is listed as a Quiz)


  • AR Open Testing 8:15 - 8:40 am
  • Weekly Reading Test will include: Reading Comprehension Test - Test on Story of the Week; Grammar Test; Vocabulary Test
  • Cold Reads (Will be listed in PowerSchool as a Test under the specific skill)

NOTE: Science, Math and Social Studies quizzes and Tests will be given when the chapters and sections are completed. This could be at the beginning, middle or end of the week.
