Glows and Grows

Glows: Great job with staff attendance this week. Only one staff absence all week as of yesterday. I appreciate your commitment to our students! Also, many thanks for really digging into the instructional routines this week. I know everyone is still working out classroom culture but it is nice to see you all unafraid to dig into the learning early and often. I've seen solid writing lessons, small group, math talks, and a building of strong foundational routines for a successful year. Bravo!

Thanks to Ms. Rivers for persevering with a kinder student who needed help being convinced that the toilet wasn't going to swallow her. Thanks to Mrs. Chun-Remick for working with the PTA to transition the Trunk or Treat.

Grows: I had a great conversation with a teacher yesterday about a student who seemingly always wants to be oppositional. It had me thinking all day about how to respond. If you are giving verbal directions to a student and they struggle to positively respond, what are other strategies you can use? Do you use proximity? Can you reframe the statement? Can you check in? Do you recognize positive behaviors? Is the student trying to save face and how you can avoid digging heels in?

Follow-Up to Tuesday Staff Meeting

I am including the slide deck for Small Group Instruction here! Remember, tackle the chunk that you are ready for. Use the slide deck resources, the many instructional specialists, and your colleagues to help guide your practice.

Remember, there are posters for the Freeborn Creek Clean-Up! If you are interested in one, please email me. Otherwise, I will post them up around campus on Monday morning. The event is 9/21/19 from 9:00 AM - NOON at Cresthaven Court and Stockbridge Court.

MTSS Tier One Plan

Our Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team met this week to review our Tier One plan for supporting our school wide expectations. I wanted to share our plan/goal for September and October. You can find the plan for the first two months here!

Check them out! September is focused on building relationships and making bonds with students. Please feel free to share the successes you've had in this area.

October is focused on recognizing students with Paw Prides and Good News Referrals. Both are available in the staff workroom. Remember, students put Paw Prides in the Paw Pride box on the stage. Good News Referrals come back to me in the office. Students can visit and hand them in and I will recognize them personally.

Attendance Awareness Month

September is attendance awareness month. Remember, our goal is 97.5% attendance across the school year. Check out the poster contest hosted by Solano County Office of Education!

Also, I will include/update this data sheet each week. I think it is a good idea to understand where our school is and where your class is. Feel free to share with your students.

Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month

This is the month of awareness! I am including a poster that you can use to promote pedestrian safety with our students. I will also include this information to parents and on our social media. Here is the poster!
