A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal

Happy Easter Sunday Longhorns,

I hope you have enjoyed this long weekend! The weather has been beautiful! We are quickly approaching the 6th 6 weeks, so make sure you are logging in to stay on top of your studies and assignments. Those of you in the virtual world, more than ever you have to be responsible for independently completing and submitting your personal best work. Virtual school is working great for those that are needing a safer option for their family, but is takes serious responsibility and good choices to make it productive.

*TUESDAY AND THURSDAY FRESHMAN AND SOPHMORE EOC TESTING! JUNIORS AND SENIORS WORKING VIRTUALLY THROUGH CANVAS! (see below for more info)

The 6th Six Weeks Instructional Model CHANGE is NOW CLOSED, which means we are starting the tedious task of reworking the master schedule one more time for the last 6 weeks. We have about 75 coming back and 65 moving to virtual...so there will be roughly the same amount of students (1100) in the building each day. No more changes will be accepted, thanks for your understanding.

PTO Needs Your Help for Staff Appreciation Week!

Staff appreciation is coming up the first week of May and our amazing PTO is wanting to plan a couple of treats for our hard working staff so they REALLY need your help! They are working on raising enough funds to treat our GIANT staff (of 210 people) with a breakfast and lunch during this week, but are needing a little help from our supportive Longhorn parents to MAKE IT HAPPEN! If you would be so kind and willing to donate we would be so appreciative. This year has definitely been a challenge for everyone, so any little perk completely makes our day! Donations can be big or small...we TRULY appreciate it (and YOU) all! Thanks for helping our PTO spread the longhorn love for the final stretch!

There are two ways to donate.

  1. PayPal: Here is the PTO 's email grhspto@gmail.com. Just go to PayPal and use this PTO email to donate!
  2. PTO member already? Use this link to donate: https://www.myvlink.org/georgeranchpto/donations1.php?c=319

One more time - DRESS CODE EXPECTATIONS - As it is getting warmer outside and I am seeing more shorts, skirts, and crop tops. I feel I am VERY generous, so please adhere to the few rules that I have. (I have included the visual again, just in case you needed a reminder). You may not like the rules, but they are still rules I appreciate you respecting them, as they are non-negotiable. Thanks for your support!

  • T-shirts cannot cover your shorts, or that means your shorts are too short.
  • Shorts and skirts should be at least 3-4 inches from your inseam (remember you are going up and down stairs)
  • There should be NO mid drift skin showing between the BOTTOM of your shirt and TOP of your pant/short. Example: If you lift your arm to wave to someone and any skin shows, it's too short because the second you sit down at a desk it will be showing skin when you lean over to write.

Lamar CISD is NOT adjusting any of its COVID-19 inside safety protocols, including the requirement to wear face coverings INSIDE all facilities. Keep being smart and stay safe by adhering to the face to face expectations by properly wearing those masks, sanitizing regularly, and following social distancing protocols to the best of our ability. We can't completely control COVID, but we can definitely slow the spread down, and that is A LOT! Any student refusing to follow the rules will be given disciplinary consequences, which will in turn affect their semester exam exemptions. Let's all do our part to keep GR the PLACE to be... especially for those of us CHOOSING to stay face to face.

Thank you so much to all our parents and students reaching out to your Assistant Principal for questions and assistance. Please CONTINUE to email your (or your student's) Assistant Principal , as they can assist you the quickest.

TUESDAY AND THURSDAY FRESHMAN AND SOPHMORE EOC TESTING! JUNIORS AND SENIORS WORKING VIRTUALLY THROUGH CANVAS!

ELA STAAR EOC is this week!

We will be testing all students enrolled at GRHS in English 1 on April 6, 2021 and all GRHS students enrolled in English 2 on April 8, 2021. All testing will take place on campus at George Ranch High School.

*ALL students enrolled in English 1 or English 2 will be required to take and pass the ELA STAAR EOC in order to graduate.

Virtual Freshman and Sophomores please see below for specific information regarding the test. We will begin testing promptly at 8:15am. You can begin getting dropped off at 7:45am behind the portable buildings next to the gym.

Drop Off/Pick Up

  • Students need to be dropped off and picked up in the same location which is the south side of the building by the gymnasium.
    • If you are coming from FM 762/FM 2759 once you get to the school complex, you will take an entrance at the last red light which is furthest away from all the schools. You will go to the back of the school behind the practice pool. You will see signs to be able to follow for drop off. All students will enter through the side gym doors. There will be staff and signs available at drop off.
    • Any student drivers may park in the back parking lot next to the gym.
  • When virtual students complete their test, they will report to the gym to contact their transportation. They will remain in the gym until their ride is there.

All TESTING INFO - Freshman and Sophomores (virtual and face to face)

Testing Rooms

  • Once students enter the gym doors, there will be rosters posted with room assignments.
  • Students will report directly to their testing room.
  • If a student does not have a room assigned, there will be a place for them to report to in the gym.
  • All testing rooms will have sanitation wipes and hand sanitizer so students are able to clean their testing area before and after testing.
  • All desks will be spaced per district guidelines

What to bring:

  • Masks must be worn at all times over nose and mouth
  • Bring your own pencils
  • Snacks/Lunch
  • Water
  • If you bring a cell phone or any personal devices, they must be turned off and placed inside their personal belongings and/or a secure location.

Testing Length:

  • The ELA STAAR EOC tests allows up to 5 hours in a regular testing room.
  • End testing times will vary by student.
  • If students are still testing at approximately 12:30pm, we will be stopping for lunch. Students have the option to bring their own lunch or they can go to the cafeteria and pick up their lunch. All lunches will be eaten in the testing rooms. Testing will resume as soon as lunch has been completed.

*Juniors and Seniors will be working virtually (on Canvas) Tuesday and Thursday this week due to the majority of teachers on campus proctoring this test for our freshman and sophomores. If you are a face JUNIOR OR SENIOR, you can CHOOSE to work from home or stay face to face on campus, but will be more than likely relocated to another room to complete your work on Canvas due to the majority of classrooms/teachers being utilized to proctor the mandatory state EOC exams. *You are still required to log in and complete the assignments that your teachers have prepared in Canvas to be counted virtually present.

If you have specific questions regarding the ELA STAAR EOC, please contact our testing coordinator, Kyra Thomas kthomas@lcisd.org.
