TUESDAY'S Call to Action: Oppose Charter School Expansion
Dear MoASSP Advocate,
We need to turn our attention today (Tuesday) to the House version of the charter school expansion bill, HB 581. Filed by Representative Rebecca Roeber (R - Lee's Summit), the bill is scheduled to be debated in the House tomorrow, March 6. Several of us will be headed to the State Capitol tomorrow. If you plan on going to Jeff City, call our office (573-445-5071) to let us know.
I am reaching out to our MoASSP Advocates today to contact their state representative(s) immediately and request that they oppose HB 581. Now is the time.
Even if you have already contacted your representative(s), please do so again. It is vitally important that our members reach their state representative(s) to request that they vote "No" on HB 581. It is also critical that our members engage their staff and their school boards to ensure that they do the same.
We are strongest when our members, along with others in the education community, are well-informed and engage together to oppose legislation that would be harmful to public schools.
Here are the reasons why MoASSP and the ten other organizations representing the School Administrators Coalition are opposed to HB 581 (Charter School Expansion).
- Performance Issues
- Inefficiency
- Lack of Public Accountability
- Inequitable Enrollment Practices
- Different Requirements
One would think the legislature would be leery of advancing a system that has such significant problems. Now is the time to contact your Missouri Representative and encourage them to oppose HB 581 (Charter School Expansion Bill). Send an email to your Missouri Representative with one click.
Respectfully,
Clark Mershon
