The Science of Character: Using Brain Science to Raise Student Self-Regulation, Resilience and Respect
This weekend I went to attend a very interesting Fall Conference in Boston, MA. Boy did I learn a lot!!! My head is spinning with new ideas to help our school to achieve Level 1+ this year. The more you know the more grow. GROWTH must be intentional this year. We are seeking 80% or more growth in reading and 65% or more growth in math.
We were so close this year. We averaged 3.6 and we needed to earn 4.0 to become Level 1+. The fact that we continue to show progress is the reason why I believe it will happen for us.
The essential question that came up was " Do you know how to talk to adolescent children?" Resilience 101. Key areas were: take away shame, take away from the dreaded lecture, give back control (learning and SEL) to the students and how we all can learn to manage streess
Beasley Parent-Teacher Conferences
Report Card Pick Up Day
Ms. Wilson, Asst. Principal went to a school specialty store to purchase achievement, perfect attendance and other certificates for you to give to students. Please see Ms. Wilson if you would like to give celebratory certificates for your students.
Please make sure to check the Report Card for errors. We would like to minimize as many grade changes as possible. This year our parent participation goal for Report Card Pick Up is 90%. Ms. Simmons has printed classroom rosters for parents to sign or initial their names. We will be collecting the sign in sheets to report in IMPACT parent pick data. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I will be checking 6th-8th grade Report Cards and writing personal notes to students as an added measure to show students that we care about their success at Beasley.
Beasley Professional Development Day 11/13/2015
2. We have learned that the majority of our staff feels that Beasley students are safe.
3. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Addison-Davis and those teachers who completed their Personal Goal Setting Forms and submitted them to Mrs. Thornton. We hope that this customized model that we have developed by Marzano, Research Laboratory (2012) has helped to clarify Beasley's strategic priorities. Please submit both forms to me in order for us to learn more about your perceptions regarding how to improve the school.
