From the Principal...Kristy McKnight

Welcome to 2022! I hope everyone had a fun and restful winter break. I know that my family really enjoyed sleeping in!

Monday the 3rd was a School Improvement Day for staff. Teachers at Ferson spent their day analyzing student data, reflecting on student growth and setting second semester learning goals. Additionally, our teams focused on building their long-range content area plans for the remainder of the year, and developing short-term plans for the first weeks in January. Our teachers have really set the stage for a successful second semester.

I wanted to highlight of couple key calendar dates. There is no school on Monday, the 17th and Tuesday the 18th due to Martin Luther King Jr Day and a School Improvement Day. Additionally, our January Early Release is Wednesday, January 26th. Elementary students will be dismissed at 2:10 pm on this day.

Stay warm this weekend!

Recess Update

Winter has definitely arrived! Children will go outside to play for recess as long as it is above 0 degrees. Please help your child dress appropriately for the weather. Snow pants and boots are needed in order to play in the snow. With that, we've noticed that while students are in the snow they are sometimes unable to keep distance between them. They are busy having so much fun building forts and snowmen and they end up with their faces right next to each other. We do prompt them to keep their distance, but if you want your child to keep their mask on while playing in the snow at recess, please let them know to do so.

Extra Masks Needed

Please make sure your child has an extra mask or two in their backpack. Masks are getting lost, wet, or broken during the day and we have many children needing extras. Thank you!

Chess Club

Meetings are Monday, January 10th and Monday, January 24th this month.

Shield Testing & Vaccination

It is recommended that you remove for child from Shield testing if they are fully vaccinated. In order to complete this, you need to visit the district website and click Shield Testing Registration, scroll down to the second page, click the link and uncheck your consent for Shield testing. The nurse is unable to enroll you.

The School Board has approved an E-Learning plan that gives the district the option to offer remote learning in place of emergency days. Currently, our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24, which is the week before Memorial Day. As we move into the winter months, we want to update you on the plan for how the district will manage emergency days and e-learning days.

  • If we experience inclement weather, the first three days will be “snow days” that will be made up at the end of the school year on May 25, 26, and 27 as needed.

  • Subsequent emergency days will be remote days so the last attendance day will still be before Memorial Day.

  • If there is a long stretch of inclement weather (blizzard, polar vortex, etc.), we may split the days into “snow days” and e-learning days so as to not have too many non-attendance days in a row.
