5D+ Updates & Information

At this weeks staff meeting I will review information on how to create your growth plans and supporting goals. Your growth plan will consists of three areas of focus and four total goals. Three goals will support each of the three areas of focus and the fourth goal will speak to the three assessment pieces that you have decided to use to show student growth. Supporting each goal will be action steps that will be taken to address each goal.

A step by step handout of the process and PowerPoint will be shared with you at the meeting.

Additionally, I will be out of the building on Thursday October 20th, and Friday October 21st to attend the last two of six trainings on 5D+. Jenny Thompson will be the principal substitute for those two days.

As we continue to navigate 5D+ together, do not hesitate contacting me with clarifying questions.

Elms Fundraiser/Walk-a-Thon Update

The Walk-a-thon will be moved to Monday, October 17th!

Here is the new schedule for Monday, October 17th.

Unit A: Walking from 1:30-2:00

Unit B: Walking from 2:00-2:30

Unit C: Walking from 2:30-3:00 (Unit C will walk right in the gym for the assembly.)

An all school assembly will take place at 3:00 pm.

There has been some confusion about the gift card winner and “pie in the face.” ONE student per grade level that has raised ANY amount of money will be put into a drawing for a $20 gift card of their choice. ONE different student per grade that raised $50 or more will be put into a drawing to throw a pie in the face of the teacher they choose. Therefore, there will be one gift card winner and pie thrower for each grade level!

If you have any questions in regards to the walk-a-thon, please me or Mrs. Spence.

Afterschool Professional Development Wednesday October 26th

Please mark your calendars for October 26th. This will be our next Afterschool PD from 4:00- 6:00 pm. This time will be reserved for you to work on your Evaluation Growth Plans.

Absences & Substitute Teacher Shortages/Cancellations

As you know, securing substitute teachers has been difficult at times and continues to be a county-wide challenge. Some substitute teachers will remove themselves from assignments the day the job is to be filled, or they simply will not pick up last minute entries.

If you know in advance that you have planned a day off whether personal or sick, please put it in AESOP as soon as possible. If you know that you need to be off a week prior to the day you are requesting, by all means place it in AESOP immediately. We have run into complications with covering classes when absences are reported the day of or even the day before. To be clear I am not referring to unexpected days you need to be off. None of us have control over last minute emergencies or illnesses. I am directly referring to time that you know in advance you will be taking off but have not placed in AESOP. Those are the absences that can be problematic.

I appreciate your patience with our substitute teacher situation. I will continue to work with central office administration to find solutions to absences that remain unfilled.
