From The Principal:

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing, fun, and good Spring Break with family and friends! We are already hard at work for this last 9 weeks of school! Next week is our first round of STAAR testing for 4th and 5th grade. Please be sure to read through the reminders from our counselor below. Remember that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be closed campus days for us.

Also, don't forget that coming up on Friday, April 14 and Monday, April 17, we will not have school. These are student/staff holidays for our district.

Let's all work together to make this last 9 weeks of school the best ones yet!

Counselor's Corner :

March 28: 4th grade STAAR Writing and 5th grade STAAR Math

March 29: 5th grade STAAR Reading

Parents can help their children be prepared to do their best by following these guidelines:

*make sure your student gets a good night’s rest before test day

*make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast

*make sure your child arrives to school on time (tardy students may not be allowed to test)

*no early release before 1:30 pm (for doctor/dentist appointments)

*send a book for your child to read after he/she finishes testing

*send a bottle of water and a healthy, NON-MESSY snack each day of testing (lunch is later due to the test, so students will get hungry without a snack) Some good choices are peanut butter/cheese crackers, goldfish crackers, pretzels, nuts, granola bars or trail mix. Snacks that are juicy or leave a lot of residue on fingers such as oranges or Cheetos can not be allowed because the mess could cause a student’s test document to be invalidated.

Thank you for partnering with us to help ensure your student has a successful testing experience!

March Teacher and Staff Member of the Month

Chelsea Davis is our March Teacher of the Month. She graduated in 2012 from SAGU with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In December 2016, she graduated with a master’s degree in Educational Administration. She has worked at Life School for 5 years and has taught 1st and 2nd grade during her time here. Her husband, James Curtis, their golden retriever, Duke and Chelsea enjoy life on the farm taking care of cattle and growing different crops. When not on the farm, they enjoy taking cruises to any beach! Over the past year they have purchased and have spent many hours completing their very first “Fixer Upper” house which should be completed very soon!

Chelsea Hall is our March Staff Member of the Month. Chelsea is the Assistant Speech-Language Pathologist at LSRO. She is a mother to a very sweet and energetic little boy, Chase. She graduated in May of 2015, from the University of Texas at Dallas, with a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. She has been at Life School since 2015. She is getting married in just a few days and will be Mrs. Goodson!

From The Nurse:

This is National Nutrition Month, so a tip on improving children’s nutrition would be, knowing that while fruit juice has nutrients, it also has a lot of sugar. Believe it or not, a 12-ounce glass of apple juice can contain 10 teaspoons of sugar-the same as in a can of cola- a glass of grape juice has 15 teaspoons of sugar. Encourage your children to eat fruit rather than drink juice. They will consume fiber along with more nutrients.

From Our Specials Teachers:

Art: Need Parent Points? The art room can always use black fine point sharpies, pre-sharpened pencils, and baby wipes! Please be sure to include student's name and homeroom teacher.

Music: The month of March is dedicated to celebrating Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM)!!! We are “Wild About Music” here at Life School Red Oak! Ask your child why they are “Wild About Music” and have them give you a few reasons.

“Wild About Music” fun reasons of the week:

  • Music builds my self esteem
  • I feel proud of my accomplishments in Music
  • Music uses both sides of my brain
  • I get to sing in Music

Computer: Parents: Here are some free educational websites you can use at home with your students. Some of these sites even have apps that you can download for free.

Students, be sure to always ask for permission from your parent or guardian before accessing the world wide web.
