Happy Mother's Day!

To all the wonderful mothers in our classroom: Happy Mother's Day. The children wrote something special for you this week, and made a special craft for you. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your gifts. Moms, please join us next week Tuesday or Wednesday morning between 8:00-8:30 am for a muffin, coffee and juice.

M-Step Testing Done!

The kids were troopers! They did their very best with some very difficult work this week. We are glad to back to our regular schedule next week.

We read poems and completed the English Language Arts portion of the M-Step test. We were able to squeeze in one new lesson for identifying and working with tricky vocabulary at the end of the week. Students also completed the final MAZE reading assessment for the year. Next week all of the students will get a little summary sheet of their reading growth from across the year. We will celebrate all of our successes!

Writing News

We wrote special things for our moms and published them on Google Docs. Moms, look for a special writing piece made just for you. We began our poetry unit despite having a week filled with testing. We will continue our poetry unit next week.

Math News

We continued learning about equivalent fractions early in the week. Students used fraction strips to make equivalent fractions and notice patterns with them. Then we shifted to noticing things about fractions on a number line. We finished the week with comparing fractions. Students can determine which fraction is greater if the fractions have a common denominator or if they have a common numerator.

Spelling News

We worked with last week's words again. The children completed a word hunt, looking for words with similar patterns around the room and in our books. We took the spelling test on Friday. These are graded and in Friday folders. Look for new lists on Monday.

Technology News

Thursday we were visited my the district technology integration specialist, Mrs. Banaszak. She helped us get logged in to Google Classroom. The children learned how to log in to my online classroom and they submitted a couple of pieces of work. They submitted poetry and their nonfiction book. They also explored Google Drawings making doodles and illustrations then submitted them to our online classroom. This is an exciting addition to our technology repertoire!
