Welcome Back
What a busy fortnight we have had since our last newsletter. School has been a hive of activity and I have been really impressed, when walking around school, at just how hard the children have been working.
Mrs Thurlow has really settled into her new role and I know she has been chatting to a few parents about their child's support plan and how best she can offer support.
Mrs Kearns and Mrs Bryan are both back at school and Mrs Kearns has loved her first week. She is busy transforming the classroom each night and I am looking forward to sharing pictures with you soon.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to those of you who are lateral flow testing at home. Cases in school have been identified through parents lateral flow testing their children which has helped us immensely in keeping cases low in school. If you do get a positive test outside of school hours please let us know via email or over Facebook messenger - we do keep an eye on this throughout the evening.
Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
Miss Bishell-Wells
Pearls
Over the last few weeks we have started our ‘Rumble in the Jungle!’ theme. The children have enjoyed learning about all the different jungle animals. We have been moving and dancing like them in PE lessons, we have been making animal masks, looking at the colours and patterns in their fur and skin and comparing and contrasting the jungle to our local area. We have been reading ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ which the children have enjoyed.
In Maths lessons, we have been continuing counting to 20, we have also been learning about 2D shapes and finding them in our classroom and outside area.
We have also been focusing on teaching independence, for example, putting your own coat on, trying to zip it up, putting on gloves, hats and scarves and tidying up our classroom after a busy morning or afternoon. If you could continue with this at home, that would really help, thank you.
Next week we will be continuing with our theme and learning about 3D shapes in maths.
Rubies
We have started looking at Vikings and discovering when and where they came from and designing some Viking shields ready to make our own!
In Science we have also begun investigating what different types of materials there are and what different properties they each have.
Diamonds
Diamonds have changed from artists to musicians this week!
We have been developing our Ukulele knowledge to think of our own musical patterns independently! We have also spent lots of time researching various animals in science, investigating how they may have changed over time and adapted to their habitats.
Sapphires
In Maths, we have revisited and secured our knowledge of decimals and place value ready to move on to using multiplication and division with decimals The Y6 have received their SATs packs and are already busy revising.
In English, we have been looking in depth at story openings and using techniques to draw the reader in.
Reading Rewards Reminder
This term the children need to earn the following number of reads for each prize level. If you child attends one of the school reading clubs this is worth 3 reads meaning they would at least get Bronze level but if they attend both they would get enough for Gold.
Remember younger children could listen to a story and this counts as a read.
As much as we prefer listening to clips of your child read/be read to on Tapestry/Seesaw, you can record reads on paper.
15 reads (3 reads a week) = Bronze Level
20 reads (4 reads a week) = Silver Level
30 reads (6 reads a week) = Gold Level
If your child is not signed up to reading club and they would like to attend please just give us a ring. Lunchtime book club is open to all children whether they have booked or not. This week was a huge success with over half the children attending. Mrs Thurlow and I love hearing them read and Mr Gudmunsen even joined us this week.
