Thursday Update for Families
June 4, 2020
Last Day of New Instruction
Based on feedback from our community, the last day of new instruction for students will be Friday, June 5. During the final regularly scheduled days of instruction June 8-10, students should complete and submit makeup work. These days will also be used for our end-of-year materials pickup and drop-off (see below). Teachers will be available to work with students as needed during these days as well.
Student Materials Pickup and Drop-Off
We have finalized plans for the pickup of student belongings and the drop-off of school materials like Chromebooks, textbooks, and library books. This process will take place next week. Schools have emailed families directions for their specific school. Parents should carefully review the directions in preparation for the week of June 8. In the meantime, if there are student belongings that are urgently needed, please contact your child’s school.
Also, student participating in summer school and those in Grades 9-11 who have TPP devices do not need to return their Chromebooks next week.
Parent Survey Next Week
As we draw closer to the end of the unusual and exceptional 2019-20 school year, many in our community are discussing the start of school next September. We cannot stress enough that the school board, administration, and staff desperately want to have our students back in our schools on September 1, 2020. We are making plans for a traditional school opening.
That said, the COVID-19 crisis has taught us to be prepared for the unexpected. Thus, we will also plan for a variety of other possible scenarios. We have always kept the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of our goals and planning. We will continue to do so and strive to meet the needs of all of our students.
To help our planning, we have developed a short survey that we are sending to our families next week.
District families should watch their emails for a survey request. Each family will receive a separate survey for each child and a survey can only be completed once per child.
Your feedback will help us in our planning for the 2020-21 school year.
Student Fee Refunds
Student fee refunds have been processed for field trips, spring sports, MHS field trips, and other fees that were previously collected. Families with a refund will be sent a check via mail over the next two weeks. Please note that any households with outstanding balances owed had surplus balances applied to existing balances before a refund was issued. If you have any questions on your student's account, please contact Sue Brezovar at brezosu@masd.k12.wi.us.
3 & 4 Year Old Screening
Screening for 3- and 4-year-olds will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Park View Middle School. Developmental areas to be screened include speech and language, pre-readiness skills (short-term memory, ability to attend and follow directions, knowledge of basic colors, etc.), fine motor skills, vision, and hearing.
This screening is for Mukwonago Area School District residents only. There is no cost for the screening, but registration is necessary. To register, call 262-363-6300 ext. 24202. The screening process will take approximately 45 minutes.
The screening is not a mandatory experience for children, but rather an opportunity for parents to have their child's general development assessed if they have concerns. Screening is a part of the MASD's Child Find process to identify students with developmental delays.

Indian Athletic Performance Summer Registration
We are thrilled to announce that Indian Athletic Performance will continue this summer! Beginning June 15 for students currently in Grades 6-11, IAP participants will complete video workout sessions created by our coaches and staff tailored for our student-athletes. If allowed, we will begin in-person IAP training on or about July 1. If not, video sessions will continue until the end of the course on July 16. Students in Grades 8-11 can register through the Infinite Campus portal. Students in Grades 6 & 7 can register using this Google Form.
IAP is a program designed to develop and enhance a student’s explosive power and speed. The training philosophy will include a primary makeup of ground-based techniques. Most student-athletes participate in standup sports. Therefore, the training is developed to initiate exercises where the feet are on the ground. The goal of ground-based training is to improve an individual’s power applied to the ground. Henceforth, during competition a participant’s speed and power will be greater on account of the training principles. Several of the ground-based lifts include the squat, snatch-squat, single-leg squat, deadlift, Romanian deadlift, lunge, good-morning, step-up, box jump, etc. All of these exercises incorporate the necessary recruitment of many muscles and joints. The philosophy is not the isolation of muscles, but incorporation of many muscles. Not only do ground-based lifts train muscles and improve power, but ground-based lifts also improve athleticism. Flexibility, balance, injury-prevention, strength, speed, and power are all characteristics that will be improved in Indian Athletic Performance. Kettlebell Training is also implemented in order to coach and foster movements. Students will also learn proper sprinting mechanics, change of direction techniques, and rhythmic exercises designed to increase raw speed.
