October 21st
October 25th Late Start Day
Centennial Families,
Monday, October 25, 2021 is a Late Start Day for all Fulton County Schools.
On Late Start days, the school day at Centennial officially begins at 9:20 am. The school day ends at 3:30 like normal, and students will attend every class following the adjusted bell schedule attached.
Late Start days are designed to further develop the wonderful work that we are doing within our professional learning communities that drives instructional practices within your student’s classrooms.
Be advised that buses will operate on a regular schedule on Late Start days. Students that ride the bus will arrive to school at the regular bell schedule time. Any student that arrives at the regular bell schedule time will go to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or to the gym, as usual. At 8:10 these students will be dismissed to go to their 1st period class to participate in a Study Hall session.
All students should be in their first period class by 9:20 in order to not be considered late.
Please note that instruction will NOT take place during study hall. The official school day will not being until 9:20 am.

Band Concert
The Centennial Knights Band would like to invite everyone to our Fall concerts. You have two opportunities next week to see the hard work our band students have put in this semester.
First is on Tuesday October 26 at 7pm in the Auditorium. The high school band will be joining Haynes and Holcomb Bridge MS in a Cluster Concert. The theme is Superheroes. Selections will include:
Captain America March
The Batman Theme
A medley of themes from hero movies
Summon the Heroes.
On Wednesday October 27 at 7pm in the Auditorium, the CHS Wind Ensemble will be performing a great concert featuring some hallmarks of the band repertoire.

Counselors' Corner
College and Career Week
College and Career Month is upon us! Throughout the month of October, Centennial High School counselors will host a plethora of student activities that will engage the post-secondary interests of each Centennial student. The events will include the following:
CHS APPLY-TO-COLLEGE DAY: Every senior student will have the opportunity to complete at least one college application with the direct assistance of a CHS counselor.
MILITARY PANEL: Students will have the opportunity to meet with various military representatives to identify post-secondary opportunities through the military.
PEACHTREE COLLEGE PLANNING EVENT: Centennial has partnered with Peachtree College Planning to host college preparatory events throughout the year. The virtual October event will focus on financial aid resources. REGISTRATION is required for the 12P noon session and the 7:00P session.
FINANCIAL AID FRIDAY: Students and parents will have an opportunity to review the benefits of the FAFSA application through the virtual presentation of Sallie Mae.
NON-TRADITIONAL CAREER FAIR:. Students will have an opportunity to explore careers that do not require a 4-year degree.
CHS ALUMNI PANEL: The event will allow CHS alumni students to discuss the CHS/Roswell resources that supported their post-secondary success.
(HASHTAG TUESDAYS) On each Tuesday of October, students will be encouraged to post an appropriate picture (to their personal social media pages) that aligns with the presented hashtag of the week
- 10/05/2021 #DreamSchoolCen10. Students will be encouraged to take and post creative pictures that highlight their dream school(s). The goal will be for students to bring various colleges/universities to the attention of their peers.
- 10/12/2021 #CuteSuitCen10. Students will be encouraged to take and post creative pictures in their work uniform. The goal will be for students to bring various job opportunities to the attention of their peers. Many high school jobs hold job growth opportunities that ultimately shape future careers.
- 10/19/2021 #KnightHackCen10. Students will be encouraged to take and post pictures with the life hack (essential resource) that has been an essential aid to their pursuit of post-secondary success while at CHS. The goal will be for students to bring attention to available Centennial High School resources.
- 10/26/2021 #CareerClickCen10. Students will be encouraged to take and post creative pictures of themselves as they picture themselves in their adult career. The goal will be for students to bring attention to various career fields in support of peer career exploration.

Planning a College Visit:
- Juniors and Seniors may take up to three college visitation days per year. Requests for college visitation days must be submitted in advance via the College Visitation Form. The completed form should be returned to Mrs. White in the Counseling Office. The form must be returned at least three school days prior to the student absence.
- Upon submission of the college visitation form, Ms. White will provide the formal request for a college visit. The request will require student, parent and college representative signature. After the visit, the form should be returned to Mrs. White who will record the excused absence.
- Assignments missed during your college visitation day(s) should be submitted prior to the absence, unless other arrangements are made with the teacher.
- College visitation days will not be granted during final exams.
CHS Virtual College Fair October 27th
When you register, you will tell the event smart platform your unique preferences for your dream university. The platform will cross-reference your preferences with all the attending colleges and will show you your personalized matching score with every single university that is attending the fair, saving you a lot of research time. You will explore the interactive virtual booths of all exhibiting universities, connecting directly with real admission counselors from that university to ask the questions that are important to you. Class of 2022 -Seniors

October is Centennial High School’s College and Career Month; therefore, Centennial counselors will host numerous post-secondary opportunities for all students to explore throughout the month. Upcoming SENIOR opportunities are as follows:
VIRTUAL FINANCIAL AID NIGHT (10/15/2021 @ 5:30P-6:30P)
Centennial High School has partnered with Sallie Mae to provide FAFSA and SCHOLARSHIP information and application completion resources. Registration is required; the registration link may be accessed HERE.
MILITARY MONDAY (10/18/2021 @ 9:18A-10:11A)
Various branches of the military will host a military panel presentation in the Learning Commons. Students should anticipate presentations from the US Marine Corp, Army, and the National Guard. In order to participate, students must retrieve a pass from the counseling office PRIOR to the 9:18A start of the event.
APPLY-TO-COLLEGE DAY (10/20/21)
Counselors will partner with the English Language Arts (ELA) department to host Apply-to-College Day on 10/20/21. On this day, each senior ELA class will be dedicated to the task of college application completion. Students with a virtual or dual enrollment ELA course may report to the Learning Commons at any time during the school day for live application assistance. Students should arrive to the application session with the following items/information:
- List of schools to which they would like to apply. If your student is still undecided, Centennial Counselors have crafted an electronic collection of collegiate marketing materials that may be beneficial. Such may be accessed HERE.
- Personal Essay. Students should be prepared to upload a personal essay in response to collegiate essay prompts. Common prompts may be accessed HERE.
- Means by which to fund college application fees. If your student utilized an SAT/ACT fee waiver or is on Free/Reduced lunch, your student will qualify for an application fee waiver. To receive the waiver, your student should see their counselor.
- Knowledge of social security number
CAREER PANEL (10/25/2021 @ 9:18A-10:11A)
Various professionals from various careers will showcase their path to career success without a traditional four-year degree. Students may anticipate presentations from professional fitness instructors, realtors, engineering professionals, film industry professionals, and representatives from the Aviation Institute of Maintenance. In order to participate, students must retrieve a pass from the counseling office PRIOR to the 9:18A start of the event.

Fulton County Schools Board of Education School Admission Policy Requires submission of 2 proof of Residency (from the district -approved list) upon initial enrollment in Fulton County Schools or upon entry into 9th grade. If you have not already do so, please email your 2 Proofs of Residency to Nancy Stickel at stickeln@fultonschools.org.
