ALB First Friday Newsletter
Hello May!
Burruss has had a fabulous start to this month! We have enjoyed a wonderful week of Feed My Schools in our cafeteria where breakfast and lunch were served using all Georgia-grown and manufactured ingredients. Students had a great time and have had full tummies every day. We welcomed Dr. Rivera, Superintendent of Marietta City Schools, and Gary Black, Commissioner of Agriculture, on Tuesday as part of the festivities.
All students K-5 have begun the Spring MAP tests in Reading and in Math. Results will be shared with parents as soon as they are available.
On Monday and Tuesday, May 8 and 9, we will welcome two IB PYP evaluators who will be visiting our school and interviewing teachers, parents, and visiting classrooms as we seek IB PYP authorization. We are thrilled at the opportunity to showcase the fabulous instruction and experiences our students have here at Burruss.
On Thursday and Friday, May 11 and 12, the fifth grade class will travel to North Georgia for the annual 5th Grade Overnight Trip. Students and staff are so excited for this experience! The 5th grade committee has worked tirelessly to raise money all year so that every single child has the opportunity to go on the trip.
Fun Day is May 19 and other grade level field trips are scattered on the calendar for these last three weeks of school.
Thank you for your support and for trusting us with your children each day.
Kind regards,
Julie & Jillian

Did you know that currently 26 International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) schools are in Georgia?
A. L. Burruss is working hard to join the list of progressive educators and schools that are focused on providing their students with relevant, global learning experiences. All members of the school community are encouraging students to take action and become compassionate lifelong learners. “The IB has broadened access to the PYP by making it available to a wide range of schools, all willing to support the mission of the IB and prepared to commit to the standards and practices drawn up to ensure successful implementation of the program. IB World Schools offering the PYP include state or national-system schools as well as independent-fee paying schools.”
Did you know that Marietta City Schools offers ALL FOUR IB programmes?
The IB offers a continuum of 4 programmes:
Primary Years Programme (Sawyer Road Elementary & A.L. Burruss an IB Candidate School)
Middle Years Programme (Marietta Sixth Grade Academy, Marietta Middle School, Marietta High School: Grades 9 and 10)
Diploma Programme (Marietta High School: Grades 11 and 12)
Career - Related Programme (Marietta High School: Grades 11 and 12)
A.L. Burruss is proud to be an IB PYP candidate school in an IB Continuum School District and anxiously awaits our IB Verification visit, May 8th and 9th.
