21 Sports ... 1 Team ... WE ARE HOBART!
Hello world here's a game that we're playin',
Cheer for the Brickies
A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin',
We'll cheer the Brickies
We'll cheer the Brickies
We'll cheer the Brickies
Ok, maybe these aren't the actual lyrics from the theme song, but then again, I never was very good remembering lyrics :)
Speaking of lyrics ... DaDaDa DaDaDa ... it's time for BricksCenter!
Wrestling
Thursday night was special for Hobart athletics ... not just because our area #3-ranked wrestlers were in action at home under the spotlight, but also because we honored three new inductees into our HALL OF FAME! Regarding the meet, it took just about as long as the induction ceremony as the Panthers did not put up much of a fight against our boys. The final score was a RIDICULOUS 75-6 as Hobart barely broke a sweat.
On Saturday, Hanover Central High School hosted the annual Lake County Invitational.
Hobart joined 19 other schools from the area to determine who would be crowned CHAMPION. Each school earned points based on how individual wrestlers performed in their respective weight classes. Led by sophomore Ruben Padilla's CHAMPIONSHIP at 120-lbs, Hobart placed 10 wrestlers in the top 5 of the 14 overall weight classes and finished in 2nd place overall! Merrillville took 1st place as a team ... narrowly beating the Brickies 268-260.5.
Here are the Brickie place winners:
106 lbs - freshman Trevor Triana - 2nd place
113 lbs - sophomore Trevor Schammert - 5th place
120 lbs - sophomore Ruben Padilla - CHAMPION
126 lbs - senior Nathan Schammert - 3rd place
152 lbs - junior Tyler Turley - 2nd place
160 lbs - senior Hayden Homoky - 2nd place
170 lbs - sophomore Jacob Simpson - 2nd place
195 lbs - senior Mark Mummey - 2nd place
220 lbs - junior Bobby Babcock - 2nd place
285 lbs - sophomore Chad McLean - 3rd place
This week will determine the Northwest Crossroads Conference as our boys travel to Kankakee Valley on TWWOOOOsday ... host Munster on Thursday for SENIOR NIGHT ... and then finish the week off at the NCC CHAMPIONSHIP meet on Saturday down at Lowell! Hobart is looking for it's 6th consecutive NCC TITLE!
GOOD LUCK BOYS!

Pete was on hand to show off the murals at Thursday's induction ceremony, which made the night that much more special for our inductees! THANK YOU PETE for such OUTSTANDING WORK WORK WORK!

Junior Ana Tepavcevich was the only individual winner for Hobart with her victory in the 100 Breast.
The Lady Brickies are 6-2 and 2-0 in NCC action! HUGE meets this week @ Munster on Tuesday and @ Merrillville on Thursday will be great opportunities to see what else needs to be done to fine-tune the machine with the post-season right around the corner.
Boys
Hobart's boys were also in the water with Kougars on Thursday night at home and they needed EVERY SINGLE POINT to squeak out the 97-87 VICTORY to remain UNDEFEATED in NCC contests! Hobart got individual victories from senior Zach Gubricky (200 Free), junior Chad Tomaga (200 IM), sophomore Jeydan Fifer (100 Free) and classmate Ethan Ferba (diving) and won ALL THREE RELAYS to hold off Kankakee Valley and secure the win!

Emma Wright set a NEW SCHOOL RECORD last Thursday night in the 200-yd IM!
Basketball
Girls
On Tuesday, the Lady Brickies welcomed the Morton Governors to town for a make-up game rescheduled from December 7th. Freshman Asia Donald scored 10 1st quarter points to help Hobart jump out to a 17-0 lead after 8 minutes ... and when senior Kora Neace buried a 3 to start the 2nd quarter, the Lady Brickies never looked back! Morton was never able to generate much offense against some suffocating D-D-D-DEFENSE displayed by our girls and Hobart won easily by the final score of 49-26!! Donald finished with a game-high 23 points and was joined in double figures by Neace with 10.
Friday, Hobart traveled to Highland for a key NCC match-up against the Lady Trojans. These two teams came in very evenly matched and play was INTENSE on both sides of the ball. Highland led 11-9 after the first quarter and extended that to a 21-15 advantage at the half. Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Brickies tried to mount a comeback and cut into the 6 point deficit, but Highland held strong and clung to their 6-point lead heading into the final frame at 30-24. Unfortunately, it was the Lady Trojans who exerted their will over the last 8 minutes and sent our girls home with a tough 45-31 defeat. Freshman Asia Donald again led all scorers with 18 points.
The Lady Brickies are currently 8-9 and 0-4 in NCC play. With 6 games left in the 2019-2020 season ... 2 each of the next 3 weeks ... it's GO TIME for our girls as they make their final preparations for sectional play!

Boys
On Wednesday night, the Brickies hosted former NCC opponent Griffith in non-conference action. The Panthers came in with a record of 6-3 after finishing 3rd at the Highland Holiday Tournament ... Hobart entered the contest at 4-3 after dropping a tough one to Valpo last Saturday afternoon. In a very physical game, Griffith applied FULL COURT PRESSURE that caused some problems for the Brickies early on, but every time it appeared the Panthers would be on the verge of getting away ... our boys would find some energy and cut the deficit to stay in the game! Eventually, Griffith was able to put enough distance between the two squads and hand Hobart a 54-36 loss. This game was HARD FOUGHT and PHYSICAL throughout ... our boys NEVER backed down and played HARD to the final buzzer. Senior backcourt duo Caleb Banjoff and Tyler Schultz combined for 21 of Hobart's 36 total points and sophomore Anthony Williams added 9 to go along with his team-high 5 rebounds.
Saturday, Boone Grove came to the Friendly City for a varsity contest that had both teams enter with 4-4 records on the season. In another PHYSICAL game, Boone tried to POUND the ball inside to their BIGS early on ... found some success ... and led 26-20 at the break. The Brickies came out INSPIRED after halftime and elevated their level of play on both ends to not only take the lead, but go on to WIN the game 50-42 after outscoring the Wolves 30-16 in the 2nd half!! Senior Tyler Schultz led the charge with a game-high 18 points. Classmate Sean UNNNNDERDAAAHHL cleaned the glass for a game-high 9 rebounds to help Hobart limit Boone's 2nd chance opportunities and secure the victory!
Hobart is 5-4 on the year and travels to #1-ranked Chesterton Tuesday night for their only game of the week. LET'S GO BRICKS!!
