Michael Burton - Teaching Assistant
Hello! My name is Michael Burton, TA at KP. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in psychology. I grew up in Avon and started working at KP in January of last year. When not at KP, I have a part time job and enjoy watching football.
Abigail Condon - Emerald Team
- Hello! My name is Abby Condon. I am now a resource teacher on the Emerald Team, after previously working at Sedgwick. I graduated from Conard in 2010 before continuing on to UConn, where I received my Bachelor and Master degrees in comprehensive special education. My favorite food is chicken cordon bleu and I love the color turquoise.
Maryann Salvatore - Garnet Team
Hello! My name is Maryann Salvatore, the new mathematics teacher on the Garnet team. I graduated from University of Hartford with a BA degree in mathematics (minor in English), and CCSU with an MS in Math Education and a 6th year in Mathematics Leadership. I have taught at Saint Paul Catholic High School, Hall High School, and, most recently, Henry James Memorial School. I am thrilled to be at KP!!
Rebecca Lewis - Garnet Team
Hello! My name is Rebecca Lewis. I am a graduate of Ithaca College with a bachelor's in Social Studies Education and a minor in coaching. While at Ithaca, I played four years of college soccer for the Bombers. After graduating, I went to Central CT State University where I earned my Masters in Educational Technology. This year I am teaching eighth grade history on the Garnet team as well as coaching freshman girls soccer at Conard. I am looking forward to a great year at King Philip.
Branden Steben - School Counseling Intern
Hello! My name is Brandon Steben and I will be the school counseling intern at KP this year. I graduated from UCONN with a Bachelors degree in Sociology in 2011. I'm currently taking classes at the University of St. Joseph to receive my Masters in school counseling. I grew up in West Hartford and graduated from Conard High. I look forward to joining the KP community.
Jill Macarilla - Teaching Assistant - Special Needs
Hello! My name is Jill Macarilla. My family has just relocated to Connecticut. I am certified to teach K-8 and previously worked as a pre-school teacher. I'm very happy to be working at KP and have already met several wonderful teachers, staff and students. I'll be working as teaching assistant with special needs. My hobbies are figure skating, jewelry making, interior decorating, hiking and painting.
Mei-Ling Caldera - Diamond Team
Hello! My name is Mei-Ling Caldera. I am so excited to be at KP as a 6th grade science teacher. I am a former KP and Hall graduate. I went on to study biology at Brandeis University and worked in the public health field. After realizing how much I loved being in the classroom with students, I pursued a certification in science education. I graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Masters of Arts in Education. In my free time, besides lesson planning, I enjoy eating ice cream in West Hartford Center, baking delicious pies, and going for walks around Elizabeth Park.
Lauren Atinsky - Teaching Assistant - Special Needs
Hello! My name is Lauren Atinsky and I am a teaching assistant working with Ms. Marchese. My husband and I recently relocated to West Hartford from Madison, Wisconsin and I am very excited to be part of the KP and West Hartford community. I have a Masters in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin and plan to pursue an additional degree in special education. In my free time I love to run, watch Mets baseball, listen to music and travel.

Confirmation of Emergency Contact Forms
Parents/Guardians, yesterday we gave students PINK Confirmation of Emergency Contact forms specific for each student. Please review these forms carefully to ensure that we have correct, updated information of who to contact should their be an emergency where we can not reach you or that allows an alternate party to pick up your child from school. Please return any forms in need of a correction by Thursday, September 10th.

Digital Citizenship Lessons
We are excited to share a new program we are implementing this year with all KP students. As part of our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, we recognize there is a need to educate your child about the safe and responsible use of technology. School counselors will be presenting a classroom lesson to 6th grade students and hosting team assemblies for 7th and 8th grade students.
6th grade students will participate in a classroom lesson during the month of October. 6th graders will also have four follow-up lessons presented in morning advisory. Upon completion of the classroom lesson, four follow-up lessons and a signed BYOD form by their parent/guardian, a student may receive their BYOD license and will be permitted to use their devices in school.
The schedule for the 7th & 8th grade team assemblies is as follows:
09/10 Amethyst team, 09/11 Garnet team, 09/17 Emerald team
09/18 Sapphire team, 09/21 Opal team and 09/24 Ruby team
Following the team assemblies, 7th and 8th grade students will participate in four follow-up lessons during their morning advisory. Upon completion of their participation in the team assemblies. morning advisory follow-up lessons and a signed BYOD form by their parent/guardian, a student may receive their BYOD license and will be permitted to use their devices in school.
