Moments of Gratitude

I was speaking to a parent last night at Abby Dabby whose son just went off to college. As we discussed his new journey, she could not stop raving about West Hartford Public Schools and the options the district provided her son to be where he is currently. When I asked a father how his freshman son was doing at Hall, he noted that he has the pillars both from home and school to be successful. I am grateful to be part of a district and part of a school that believes that all students can learn. I am grateful to be part of a school with an amazing group of teachers, students and families who make it a joy to come to school each day. As you take the weekend to rest from your labor, I want to thank you for the way you labor for your children and for your continued partnership.

Unified Theater News

We are currently looking for leaders for Unified Theater. Unified Theater is a unique experience for students to work with people of all ability to cooperatively put on a student-led production. There is no audition or exclusion, and everyone is a valuable part of the process. We need strong leaders to step up and be willing to direct, choreograph, produce, and make sure that all students are included. This is a fun experience that will help develop leadership skills and a greater understanding of the needs of people of varying abilities. Rehearsals will be on Thursday's after school until 5:00 with a leaders meeting until 5:30. They will start in early October and run through mid December. The deadline for students to apply is September 25th. Please visit for more information on this program, and contact Jared Boulet ( or Heather Pelkey ( for more information.

Digital Citizenship Lessons

Good Afternoon KP Families,

We are excited to share a new program we are implementing this year with all KP students. As part of our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, we recognize there is a need to educate your child about the safe and responsible use of technology. School counselors will be presenting a classroom lesson to 6th grade students and hosting team assemblies for 7th and 8th grade students.

6th grade students will participate in a classroom lesson during the month of October. 6th graders will also have four follow-up lessons presented in morning advisory. Upon completion of the classroom lesson, four follow-up lessons and a signed BYOD form by their parent/guardian, a student may receive their BYOD license and will be permitted to use their devices in school.

The schedule for the 7th & 8th grade team assemblies is as follows:

09/10 Amethyst team, 09/11 Garnet team, 09/17 Emerald team

09/18 Sapphire team, 09/21 Opal team and 09/24 Ruby team

Following the team assemblies, 7th and 8th grade students will participate in four follow-up lessons during their morning advisory.
